Cool, an autonomous EV-Uber for the sky. It takes a lot of time to get an aircraft certified. I live on a lake in Maine, and a Finnish float plane mfr just announced it was moving nearby to assemble their planes in the US. Atolavion. Looks perfect for me.

I used to fly remote control airplanes. Except for the VTOL(which I presume takes MORE energy than a rolling takeoff), this didn't seem much different. Flight times are under 10 minutes.

Without HUGE advances in battery capacity/weight ratios, this isn't even a hobby flight let alone a daily commute.

I can't wait for the "don't text and fly" ads to start.

I think I will be retired from Spacely Sprockets before flying to work happens outside of Groom Lake.

I was reading a very interesting article how a company was planning on taking some thing like this, making it autonomous, and then marketing it in areas with little/no road infrastructure.

Don't know how practical the idea is, but it sure sounded cool!

I saw something similar is in the works in Dubai. Might have been the same that you read, but I remember seeing a video of it.
