I have not read this anywhere. Rumors and speculation do not count. Do you have anything official ?

When will the next Volt be arriving ? Anything official ? Just rumors ?

Even though the Cruze and Volt are different in many ways they are related in the same way a Toyota Camry is to a Lexus ES.
I know what you are trying to say, but the ES and Camry are not related anymore.

    Stop it.
Isn't when the next generation Volt is expected to come out of interest to customers? Because in that sense the development schedual of the platform underpinning the Cruze is very much so related to the Volt.

A yes you are correct. The Camry and ES diverged in their lastest design cycle. Maybe I should have said how they were related? Or maybe use another reference like how the 2014 Chevrolet Impala is related to the 2014 Cadillac XTS.

I guess it is fair to say that the Volt and the Cruze share some DNA in platform design. I think the relevance here is seeing a preview of a car built on the new platform that is the same that the volt will be built on. It can be discussed in relevance to the Volt and not discussed as a Cruze per se and it would be a single thread that would end with a lot of discussion on how the Volt will be on this new platform.

I do not see any harm in the original post as it has some context to the Volt.

It may in fact help someone decide to move to a Volt down the road if there is high praise for the new Cruze on the new platform. Now then, if the new platform of the Cruze suggests otherwise than many of us may be concerned going forward. I welcome any good information and this is just that.

    Thanks for the info Neromanceres!

This is good info in the right place. Thanks. Btw, this info is all based on rumors and/or unnamed sources and is not official in any way.
For what its worth I have always like to play the rumor game in forums where all sorts of guesses are made on whats coming next based on nothing official and reliable so this thread is good for that. Keep it coming.

How about a Cruze convertible ? Will it make to to the 3rd gen Volt in 8 years. Maybe. Photshop pictures anyone ?

This thread though does have the negative side affect of leading certain people to beleive the Volt is really just a Cruze in sheeps clothing.

For instance here is what Trump said in another related thread:
"The cruze is volts twin brother minus the electric drive. It helps to be able to compare the 2 to make an informed decision on which one fits your needs better. Electric drive is nice but is it worth$20000 extra ? Not so sure.".

The persons assumption is that the Volt is really just a $20000 car if you removed Voltec.

    Aside from impressions and unrelated associations;

    1) The current Volt platform is GM's Delta II (worldcar) compact platform, chosen to reduce development costs,
    2) The current Cruze platform is GM's Delta II (worldcar) compact platform,
    3) The Delta II platform will be replaced in 2014 for the Cruze, which GM hopes to market worldwide,
    4) The Volt is due for a refresh in 2015, according to conversations with GM executives in 2011,
    5) With the Volt/Cruz's Delta II platform going away in 2014, that leaves the Cruze's new D2XX platform as the leading option for developing the next generation of Volts,
    6) Wishing for a separate platform than the current Delta II to further justify the price difference between my Voltec and my neighbors Cruze changes nothing,
    7) Recognizing as a Volt enthusiast, that it's interesting to look at the application of the new D2XX platform to the Cruze, even though misinformed people say that is evidence the Volt is not worth it's cost compared to a stripped down base model Cruze, does not make the writer a racist or racial profiler, only racism or racial profiling would do that.

Jeff good points. Just to elaborate a bit further is that the D2XX is a general descriptor for the new platform. There will be several variants of the new platform (like D2AB or D2UC etc.. [just examples I don't know the specifics yet]) The Volt will get it's own variant of D2XX that will likely be optimized different from the version the Cruze will get. In the past GM's platforms were not too flexible. But GM is trying engineer fewer more flexible global platforms going foward. However the development timing of this program will certainly influence the Volt program.

I'm hearing the new Cruze will show in late 2014 as a 2015 model year and will be the first car on the new platform. But that is an aggressive target and I wouldn't hold my breath on it. Delta II will exist for ~4 years yet. But after the ELR and Opel Cascada I wouldn't expect any new cars on the platform (there are rumors Buick may get a re-badged version of the Cascada in North America).

I really hope you are right. I would hate to see someone buying a Cruze and ending up with a T shaped hole in the center. And how would we feel if we recommended the Volt to someone, and they ended up with a battery bolted to the bottom of a Cruze platform, and the battery case scraped the road way on every turn
