Default Recall on Accelerator Potential Pedal Breakage at Stalk Just Below Housing Possible?

So I just got a letter from GM: Your 2014 volt may have a condition where the accelerator pedal may break at the stalk just below the housing due to the driver entering or exiting the vehicle with their foot resting on the accelerator pedal. If the pedal breaks, it would not be possible to operate the accelerator once the stalk has broken off. The vehicle would return to idle regardless of transmisssion gear position.

They say it is under warranty for 10yrs or 120,000 miles from date car was put in service.
They say do not go to my dealer unless I believe my vehicle has this condition above.

How the hell will I know til I break it?
Has anyone gotten this letter too?
Has anyone had such condition happen to their gen 1 volt?

Obviously it must have happened to someone, or there would be no recall.

I can't even imagine how clumsy you would have to be to push the pedal sideways like that.

But, if it bothers you, I guess you could just break it and get it replaced.

If it ain't broke don't fix it.... Mary B. has them all scrambling to take care of you, why question it? I have several extended warranties on our Volt. Comforting to know that if and when it will be fixed.

Tired of paying Ally, went out and bought a used Premium with 21910 miles on it.
Ally wanted $24,995 to buy out my old 2013. I bought one with Premium Black Leather
and only a few thousand miles more then the old one $16,750 Certified extended warranty.

Got the letter, got my flashlight and inspected the metal brake arm and accel pedal visually and by touch, top to bottom. No cracks can be seen or felt, all is good.
