Default Letter from GM accelerator pedal stalks breaking- Special Policy Adjustment #38170

Anyone get this? I tried searching, but didn't see anything about it in the forums. Kind of an odd failure, and it's interesting it's not a recall. Seems like that's a poor pedal design.

It might help if you posted something larger.

I got the same letter. Actually two. One for the Volt and one for the ELR. Glad to see GM is on top of this.

#38170: Special Coverage Adjustment - Accelerator Pedal Stalk Fracture

Condition: On some 2011-2015 Chevrolet Volts and 201-16 Cadillac ELR, the accelerator pedal can break at the stalk just below the housing due to the driver entering or exiting the vehicle with their foot resting on the accelerator pedal. If the pedal breaks, it would not be possible to operate the accelerator once the stalk has broken off. The vehicle would return to idle regardless of transmission gear position.

Corrective Action: If the accelerator pedal has been damaged, dealers are to inspect and if required, replace the accelerator pedal position sensor assembly. The repairs will be made at no charge to the customer.

Special Coverage Adjustment: This special coverage covers the condition described above for a period of 10 years or 120,000 miles (193,000 km), whichever occurs first, from the date the vehicle was originally placed in service, regardless of ownership.

DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR INTO YOUR DEALER FOR THIS. IT IS NOT A RECALL.

We've received this letter for both our 2011 & 2014 Volts. Haven't had this problem, however.

Received it as well but haven't noticed anything. I'll just or it in the car for safe keeping until the problem arises.

I got the letter to. Curious though why you would rest your foot on the gas pedal when entering or exiting the car.

Why would you ignore lit up screens and dinging and leave your vehicle on? Look where that got us.

Just be glad it doesn't come with a quadruple honk every time you open the door to remind you not to step on the accelerator when entering and exiting.
