I'm willing to go out on a limb and guess that ECM for the 1.4L engine in the Volt is the exact same ECM that is in the Cruze. I'm also going to take a wild stab and guess that any OBDII diagnostic scanner can hook up to the Volt and read codes. Thus, the computer in the Volt is inherently like other cars.
Yes the Volt has the same E78 ECM as the Cruze does. EFILive can already unlock that ECM and upload a bootloader to read out the memory segments. However they have not laid out the definition files that allow their software to tune the ECM as yet. wait4me was working on building those definition files, and he has a head start because GM is changing their engine management strategy across their whole line to mesh better with hybrid powertrains. Much of the Cruze coding is already embedded with features that make it easier to adapt to a hybrid application.

On every other ECM so far, GM has not found it necessary to activate a programming history routine or make it available with the scan tool equipment. Therefore, you can reprogram the calibrations to stock and return the CVN's to stock without anyone knowing that it was programmed. Of course, GM can easily activate this feature on any of the ECM's that they use. <edit> - It appears that they have activated a programming event history on some of the Global A ECM's for the V8 and V6 engines, just looked up the latest bulletins for the Camaro. There is no such bulletin listed that applies to the Volt

In addition, some tuners are writing their memory segments so that they return a factory CVN anyway, so a tune can be masked and not show up on our equipment.
That says it all right here...these tuners trash an engine and then try to cover the tracks of their crime...

When the systems throw codes the error handler should bump some counters in some form of protected memory segment...Or better yet transmit it via Onstar OFFSITE...

Some tuners are hacks and damage almost everything they touch. Others are quite good at what they do, keeping things quite reliable. Either way GM certainly does not endorse it.

Ooohh, that's slick! We did something similar in another programming endeavor I was involved in years back to "cloak" our code changes. But I haven't done anything where I had any need hide my code modifications for some time, and didn't really think about doing anything like that. That's a very elegant solution for retaining the proper checksum hash value though!

sorry been busy with other things, so I haven't hung around here at all...

I sent over the files to be put in the software the day I started posting. They have been done, and anyone with EFIlive software can tune your ENGINE controller. You are in full control of applied throttle torque and 100s of other things you would want to probably play with..

It is not vapor ware. It is real. I have sent the files needed to about 50 others that asked.. So, good luck guys. I'm now hacking the Fisker karma, which is a much more fun car..

Karma = 2 200hp electric motors topped off with a Turbo engine that is a variant of what the volt has in it.. When the engine is running with the electric motors on the Karma, with a little tune...... ;D

Thanks for checking in. How has the tuning gone for the guys with the files/EFIlive? Is there anyway the files can be put up on a mirror site?

Also, good luck with the Karma. That car should be able to put down some interesting numbers.
