    Default Excited about the technology!

I remember years ago, when gas reached $1.50 a gallon (on its way up), I said good bye to my GMC Jimmy for a Mailibu. Since then, buying a car has been a constant battle between fuel economy and functionality ... until now.

About a month ago, I read about "hypermiling" and have been using these techniques with some success. Recently, my PT Cruiser got me round trip Milwaukee to (west of) Chicago, a 200 mile trip, at an average of 34 mpg.

I first read about about the Volt a week and a half ago. The Volt is the first hybrid to use an ICE for what I think it should be used for, for generating electricity (not driving the wheels). I instantly decided it will be my next car (hoping GM will stay alive long enough), when priced under $30K. I'm very excited to watch this technology come to life.

I recently watched "Who Killed the Electric Car" (the story of the EV1), and I'm hoping the Volt is not going to be another "just kidding" car.

    Thanks for this informative site!

It's becoming clear that GM will not be the first to bring a serial hybrid to market. There's a chinese volt clone going on sale this month and lots of other companies have their own plans. However GM did get the ball rolling with all the volt-related publicity.

Whatever happens I hope GM can deliver and expand the platform!
