Default Hook for rear hatch came loose.

Has anyone else had the hook for the rear hatch latch come loose? If you have, do you recall what size torx bit that it takes and how you were able to access the fasteners. I might be able to work my way to them with a 1/4" flex joint and ratchet without taking off the panel. It doesn't appear obvious how to get the plastic panel off. Maybe I'll drill some small access holes in the panel since this thing will probably come loose again. The rear hatch gets quite a lot of use. Maybe some thread loc would be in order.

Update: I was able to re-tighten the two torx screws by working a T30 torx bit around the spring loaded flap that obstructs access the screws using a 1/4" flex-drive extension.

I would never drill a hole to get to it. Do the job right. If your car is still under warrantee, take it to the dealer.

Which hooks are you referring to? The 2 in the back just have little covers that pop off.

Ooo, that reminds me, I need to have 2 of the tabs in the hatch replaced where the rag cover is supposed to hang off of. Add that to my "things to get done before b2b warranty expires" list.

Sounds like you're dropping it from a height each time to achieve that.

Are your bump stops properly adjusted?

I lower it and hold it around 6" gap, then let go of it. I use the plastic area around the release button as a 'hold-point' until I let go of it.

It's the steel loop mounted on top of the rear sill that the latch of the rear hatch engages with.

You will need to remove the 4 nuts that hold the trunk floor in place and remove it. Then simply grasp the bottom of the rear trim piece and pull out and up. There are about 6 clips that hold it in place.
This thread has some more detail and pictures about removing the rear interior pieces:

    Thanks, that looks easy enough.
