Move/Remove the door lock thing from the window sill

Huh. Maybe that's why I've never run into this problem, LOL.

I guess it isn't a problem if you keep both hands on the wheel. I do confess to driving with one arm out the window with a pack of cigarettes rolled up in my "T" shirt sleeve when I was a teenager

My wife rests her arm there when I'm driving (on her side of course ). She normally forgets to move her arm before I put it into park, and the door lock smacks her in the arm. She, of course, gets mad at me. We have a TDI VW Jetta that we have driven for the last 7 years, and it uses LED's instead of a physical post for the door locks. It is becomming more automatic now, but has taken some time to remember to move your arm before putting the car in park.

Edit: Looks as if one could just remove the rod and cover that hole up with a nice black plastic plug.
