But these people do not represent the bulk of republicans any more than the Brady campaign (gun control nuts) or Jesse Jackson represent all democrats.

I also recognize that being a republican has a lot more to do than just with energy policy. Where your comparison with a vegetarian centers around one specific subject, a political affiliation encompasses many different things. And yes, while I disagree with Romney's energy plan I tend to agree on just about everything else.
Ditto and we own 2 Volts. The candidate are all about compromise.

Another day, another stupid anti-Volt article. I had someone in our Finance department question me about the 40-50k loss per Volt claim. As soon as I said that's based on calculating R&D costs into every Volt sold so far, he immediately stated how stupid that claim was. I think more people get it than we sometimes give them credit for.

I have to agree with you. I think that it is tempting for those that support the Volt to attempt to paint opponents with a broad brush. I encourage posters to reign that line of thought in, lest the forum devolve into a political mudslinging event.

They could have said all the same things about the Prius too, but didn't. And now the Prius after years of losing money wound up selling 2,000,000 of those cars worldwide. And let's face it, this is well on the way to be the number one exported car from the USA in the world. Sometimes people can't let go of their incandescent light bulbs either. They can't see into the future, especially business magazines, as they are driven by a focus on the next quarter, not next decade. The Volt is well on its way to being a smash. Takes time, just as Toyota about the Prius.

My theory is that, even though the Prius enjoys the typical subsidies and protectionism from the Japanese government, it didn't get the bashing from conservatives in the USA because the subsidies did not come from US taxpayers.

I agree. I don't think it ever a good idea to force people into categories, or to assume that a whole group of people are the same.

With that said, I suspect that the price of the Volt means that Volt owners will *tend* to have above-average incomes, and thus many (but not all) lean towards the conservative politically. But the fact that we own Volts also indicates that we don't buy 100% of the modern Republican narrative.

I'm thinking "If a tree falls in the forest?" The Forbes demographic is pretty crusty, and I doubt most subscribers even visit their website. The lack of debate makes my point. I don't know the actual numbers, but bet they're feeding inter-generational talking points to elders of the party, ones who still remember Malcolm.

For all the stress on GM-Volt's minute-man response team, I think battles may be more efficiently waged elsewhere.

My assumption is most media attacks on the Volt are, and have been, bought and paid for by the oil industry. The Volt is on an adoption S curve that is not good for them. They have been doing the same thing with Tesla...driving down the stock. Unlike the EV1 the Volt is well and truly out of the bag. Now Tesla's deliveries are finally ramping up. (phew)

Its a no brainer on a day to day basis.....every time I glide by a crowded gas station, its obvious those are not happy campers out there. I stopped for a coke yesterday and a guy waiting in line atn the register said what are doing here? He asked how much I was paying for the Volt lease and then shouted thats less than I paid for gas last month.

Its fun to be involved at the ground floor.
