As others have recommended definitely get the charging situation figured out before you buy. If your apartment balks then I would go apartment shopping. It is probably more likely to get a different apartment manager to agree to let you charge when he is trying to fill a vacancy then it is to get your current one to.

For a "luxury apartment complex", you would be surprised at the crap they let people get away with, I would imagine that a covered cord would be the least of their worries, but I would of course check with them first. And the plug in the carport would be tied in to my electrical system, if they allowed me to do that. I don't expect free electricity.

The local public stations are pay stations, but it would still cost me less to use those a few times a week (I don't have a long commute) than fill up gas in a regular car. They seem pretty reasonable, as far as price is concerned. And currently, I'm spending 40-50$ a week in our civic, because those short, few mile drives are terrible for fuel economy. If I can get away with doing those in electric, and then using gas later in the week, I would save a lot of money in gas.

And if push came to shove, my god sister who owns a house not too far away from me, who would no doubt let me charge a few times a week if I payed her (+ maybe a bit extra) the difference on her bill. Actually, now that I think about it, that's probably the best idea, I'll send her a message and see if she's into that.

And our next apartment will have a garage. There's a nice complex closer to my god sister and her family (35+ year family friends of ours) that has garages for most of the apartments, and they have plugs in the garage to put spare refrigerators and whatnot.

And to the guy who suggested the Prius. Ew, no. Never.

    Thanks everybody for the suggestions

I actually think the Volt 110V charger cord is 14 feet. it works but it could be a tad longer. On fitting in I am 6ft and have a pretty long torso compared with my legs. I put the seat all the way down and slide it back a tad more than i usually would and bring the wheel out to me and it's fine. obviously you need to make sure you fit in the car but I think it's fine.

another Stingray customer - I'm about 350 miles away in Savannah. Al Thompson threw in all weathers in the car and trunk with my lease.

Hope you're able to get the cord issue sorted out.

I will say that the Volt is worth it to me since about 95% of my driving uses half the battery range, although today I did blow through it all and a 10th of a gallon of gas running around town doing stuff. If I was having to use the ICE regularly, it would likely give me pause.

    Good luck with the decision.
