    Default 2016 ELR

For all you nay-sayers out there, looks like there will be a 2016 ELR.

If the new Voltec setup can accomodate variable size engines, I'd expect ELR to have something bigger on the nosa than the stock Volt engine. Might bring the 0-60 more inline with it's competitors.
    Chevrolet Volt 2012 - average: 2.3l/100km (102mpg) / 43,000 miles
    VW Touran 1.9 TDI DSG - average: 5.6l/100km (42mpg) / 136,000 miles
    Chrysler Grand Voyager 3.3 V6 - average: 12.0l/100km (19mpg) / 27000 miles

Actually the press release was updated and the ELR reference removed, here is direct from GM. This is old "news" from 2 weeks ago

I understand the ELR doesn't have the blazing acceleration that some people expected, and yes it would be nice to have faster times but it is plenty fast enough for me. Here is a list of 0-60 times of some past muscle cars. With and ELR 0-60 time of 7.8 to 8 seconds that isn't so bad. I mean it's no Tesla, but I don't think it was meant to be.

You may be right, but I read this and it said it was posted four hours ago.

The key phrase for me is "enhanced performance". They're not calling it an all new powertrain so I assume enhanced means an improved powertrain based on the one used in 2016 Volt. The earlier ELRs have been criticised for lacking performance, I wonder how much more performance the engineers at GM will be able to extract from the Voltec powertrain? Will the enhanced performance finally quiet the critics, and if so, will this be the same powertrain that will be used in the upcoming CT6 Plug-in?

Yes, this. Much like the Volt, it "feels fast." Also, so much faster than the Porsche's in the regular freeway lanes vs. the HOV lane

The car is a comfort luxo cruiser for two, not a track monster nor a people hauler.

At current prices, it slots beautifully in-between the volt and tesla. Especially if you don't want to drive the mail truck that is the I3.

It never did make much sense that a new ELR would reveal in a market where it isn't sold.

Even with the current setup, they can technically get over 300HP and 400lb-ft by running MGA (75HP), MGB (150HP) and ICE (80HP) in parallel. This kind of power can easily propel the car to 60mph in 5 seconds or less, if the hardware can be beefed up to support such power. I would call it "SS" mode
