Default Fisker recalls some 2,400 Karmas

It looks like they found the root cause (ironically a cooling fan):

I think this is good news, and IMHO this too shall pass. Every new company has setbacks. Strong folks are behind Fisker, like Kleiner Perkins and NEA, two of the most powerful VCs on the planet. And now they have Tony Posawatz as the CEO.

Fisker might get bought some day, but they won't perish. I'd bet on it.

I hope they get more traction. The Karma is an awesome looking car on the road.

The cooling fan better not have been made in China...with the DOE loan, I can see the headlines already.

I love how they blame the fan and not their engineering. Well, wasn't it their engineers who spec-ed in that fan and failed to properly fuse it? Their engineering is totally to blame here. Sheesh. "Wow -- how the heck did that pesky little fan sneak in there? Son of a gun."

2,400 Karmas is more than I expected. By EV standards that's a significant achievement.

That is quite a number of $100k+ cars.

Glad they found the problem. I wonder if this was the same issue that lit the Texas Karma on fire while parked in the garage? That fire seemed to have started in a similar manner as the Woodside fire - I wonder why they weren't able to figure out the cause of the fire then?

For sure, the Texas Karma was totally burnt to a crisp, though. Perhaps there wasn't enough evidence behind after that to isolate the cause.

Since they've made only about 1900 units, this number seems weird. Tony P. mentioned 1900 in a recent call as their new CEO. A vin # of 1986 or so was recently seen in the USA.

There were four fires in the 12V system of the Tesla Roadsters with similar recall and fixes. So this isn't the first type of failure in that kind of engineering design.

The guy in Texas will need to let his insurance company go after Fisker for this an the guy with the market-place fire should indeed be able to get another Karma for free via this issue (if he wants another one).

    Press release:
The owner of the car involved in the Woodside incident, Mr. Rudy Burger commented:
"I have been incredibly impressed with the way Fisker has handled this incident. I have
personally started seven technology companies and know from direct experience that
the US needs more innovative companies of this type, especially in the automobile
    sector.

"Fisker is a great company and one that I am personally planning to invest in. I look
forward to getting behind the wheel of my next Fisker.

I've seen 3 different color Karma's on the road down here in the past 2 months, and that's close to the 4 Volts that I've seen on the road in the past year and a half. The higher priced cars seem to sell better around here. I can't wait until Tesla Model S hits the road in large numbers. I'm willing to bet you won't see similar problems arise from Tesla's as we have seen with Fiskers.
