Mine appears to be paint through a stencil. There's nothing where it's white (the basic car color) or it's zero thickness (same thing) there. So either it's stuck on letters, but the edge roughness looks just like paint to me. $%^#$%#$%

When my salesman called to tell me my Volt was in and I made arrangements to get the car 2 days later he said he'd get it ready for me. I told him to NOT put the sticker on. I get there and as I'm walking up to the car I see the sticker on the bumper. Made them take it off before I left. I'm fine with a license plate frame but not a sticker.
2013 Summit White: Premium Trim, Enhanced Safety Package 1, Nav, Bose
Years ago, my wife was in outside sales and called on many car dealers all over the Dallas area. One of the cars we bought had a big, ugly plastic dealer ID on it so she told them she didn't want to pull up to a competitor and having that be on her car cause them to not buy from her. They popped it right off with just their fingers and a quick clean up afterwards. (She later told me that her customers probably would never have noticed it, but that she just didn't like the look of it!)
I read a very well written post here on what to do before and when you picked up your Volt. That Item was covered and it was in my instructions. Then I changed my mind and had them add it back - It actually look good ( black sticker on the black trim) and I liked the dealership.
I did have to tell them 6 times to NOT PUT ANY GAS in the car :-)

Be careful!
After reading this thread, I tried a product similar to Goo Gone (an organic version), and ended up with lots of nearly-invisible scratches on the paint. Part of the problem is that they used individual stickers for every letter, so there were probably about 50-100 of 'em (including city name, etc.), and the individual ones need more goo to keep them from falling off.

Why not take the free gas? Are you worried about dragging around the extra weight of a full tank or something else?
I used to worry about it since it might mess up my VoltStats figures, but since Mike changed the definition of "Miles per tank of gas" to be the miles gone over any 8 gallon period, I have not worried about it.
GM has actually put more gas in my car than I have. They put in the original 9.3 gallons and another 7.6 when they did the battery channel reinforcement rework. My Volt has only burned 29 gallons of gas so far.

Placing dealer stickers on cars is not part of the culture in Southern California. I once bought a car in Baltimore which appeared with a metal dealer ad. The dealer removed it at my request.
I got the stickers off with my fingernail. Took a few tries, but the stickers are gone.
