Check engine mystery

So my wife came home yesterday and told me the check engine light was on. I went out and saw that it was on, cycled the car off and back on, it was still there. So I grabbed my scan-tool (I have a pretty fancy one) and plugged it in. There were two engine modules I could look at, but neither one of them had any DTC's. I also checked for pending DTC's and there were none of those either. So I unplugged and scratched my head, cycled the power one more time and the light went off. We drove several places yesterday and it never came back on. So now I'm really confused as to what it could have been.

I've seen numerous posts on here about issues with public charging stations, etc. But our Volt has never been charged on anything except its own 120V EVSE and our 240V Aerovironment EVSE. We've never had a problem with either one.

Any thoughts?

Actually, I just noticed that you have the same EVSE I do and our 1 month old Volt just did the exact same thing. I had noticed it plugged into the Aerovironment and not charging the day before, but reconnected and it worked so figured the wife just didn't plug it in all the way.

But, it is interesting, same charger, same symptom, same day. I don't know if our check engine light has gone off yet.

I had that happen once after charging for a brief period at a chargepoint station. Cleared up after a few cycles and hasn't happened since.

Most likely an EVSE issue. The CEL comes on if there is any issue. If it's nothing it will just disappear after a short while or a few charging events.

Calling OnStar is a great idea. That will give you the exact codes. Plus they can tell you if the issue is serious.

I do believe we've seen this more with Aerovironment chargers but not all the time and that doesn't mean there is anything wrong with the charger. There can also be an issue charging when it's wet.

I agree, and I would call OnStar and see if they can find anything. Keep us updated.
