Default Is there a way to force the display screens to day mode?

Whenever I leave for work in the morning, the displays are dimmed as if I'm driving at night (because the car is in my dark garage). When I pull out into the sun, it still can take up to 10 seconds for the car to realize that its daytime and switch off the headlights and brighten the displays.

While I know I can switch the displays to "day view" and "night view," that only changes the colors of the displayed map and other text; switching to "day view" doesn't cause the display to turn bright like when its daytime.

I hope I'm making sense with this question! Anyone know a way to force the displays to be bright (like during sunny daytime) when the car thinks it's too dark outside? Again, I'm not referring to the color change of the maps nor to the dial wheel to the left of the steering wheel that controls contrast in night mode; just whether the displays are automatically dark or bright (probably in conjunction with the headlights being auto on or auto off).

I know what you are saying (not such a big beal IMO) but sorry no. (other than turning OFF the auto-lighting feature OFF completely by "cycling" the switch in the turn signal level to OFF and back again, it's spring loaded and will return to AUTO afterwards. This must be done with the car ON each IGN cycle though)
Unfortunately in "AUTO" there's no practical method to alter this behavior (other than brightening your garage - a skylight maybe ;')
About all you can really do is set the night-time brightness setting to maximum in order to minimize the transition (but then I find its too bright at night)

The only thing I can think if is turning up the brightness of the display all the way while it is in night mode. That is the roller knob just to the left of the steering wheel on my MY12. It makes it pretty bright. You would probably want to turn it down when it is really night.

As noted in my original post, I already know about that roller knob. But I shouldn't have to use that at all. I wouldn't have a problem if the screen would switch to its normal day mode immediately upon pulling into the sunlight, but it can take quite a while sometimes. Driving under overpasses causes the same problem.

I own a 2012 Volt built in May 2012, and I'm surprised that the car still seems to have many "first year" glitches and omissions that I'd expect to have been resolved by now. Even more surprising is that the 2013 models don't appear to fix many of these problems either. Weird.

    Not a glitch.(and you're being a bit rediculous lol)
Every GM car and truck with Auto-Lighting works this way for very sound rationale (as well as most other OEMs for that matter)
If you didnt have the time delay, your lighting would be switching back and forth between day-night with cloud cover, buildings, tunnels etc
You could always go back to manually controlling your exterior lights I guess... (turn the little knob from "AUTO" to OFF and back to AUTO with the car ON)

Not ridiculous if I previously had a $23,000 car that didn't exhibit any of these problems I'm having with the Volt. Still, I wouldn't trade in my Volt for anything else right now, and the little problems are just that - little. But it still would be nice if the systems were refined. Perhaps the Cadillac ELR will resolve all my complaints and be my next Voltec in 2014

Then I can presume your $23,000 didnt have Auto exterior lighting features as THEY ALL work this way. (as will the 2014 ELR) lol

It did have auto exterior light features. It also let me override it on the nav display, so it never was a problem like in the Volt.

All cars do not work the same way. There's a lot of "all cars do this" going around on this forum

Like I said, you can over-ride the feature on the Volt as well. Just turn the little headlight knob from AUTO to OFF.
How is that any different from your other car? (and you'll have to let me know what $23K car has full LCD NAV features)
Lots of "incessant" whining about menial items happening on these forums as well. (especially in the last hr!)

Tell you what. I'll just move these threads into a more appropriate forum. Good luck with your suggestons!

Moderator: Aren't you being a ittle reactive/harsh here? This is a legitimate question that I was asking myself just the past two days (my little toddler must have played with knobs becuase now my dispaly is super dim like the original poster is describing). I'll try the knob on the left. His question wasn't whining but a real question.
