Default What about the new Caddillac ELR versus....

I'm looking at picking up another EV in mid 2013 or 1 January 2014 (for tax purposes) - just curious.... Anyone find the Caddy ELR an alternative to the Model S? So far, seems like the Chevy Volt with the supreme beastly attraction of the Caddy nameplate. I know the price is going to be at least $15,000 more than the Chevy sibling though. I'm not exactly the flashy type, but I do like comfort. Owned 4 Buicks for that reason.

It seems to just be a Volt with some extra noise reduction and an extra mile of battery capacity . I traded a Buick and a Cadillac CTS on my two Volts and am very pleased with my decision .

It will be really interesting to see what the specs on the ELR are. Reports are that it will be priced lower than the min-spec Tesla Model S, and just the fact that it's a sedan rather than a hatchback should make it considerably quieter than the Volt at highway speeds. I don't know how much of the Converj concept vehicle will survive in the ELR, but the Converj had of the more interesting interiors I've seen recently - great lines, futuristic, and very upscale.

Given how much sharing there is for GM drivetrains, I wonder if the if the ELR will see much of an upgrade over the volt, rumors of the 2.0T ICE notwithstanding. In any case, it's a very exciting car. I just wish it was available sooner, rather than later.

The ELR should have the next generation Voltec drive train. I'd think an improvement over what we have in the Volt today. I doubt the 2.0, maybe a 1.8. Also more range, with more cells and light weight materials making up for the additions like power seats. Also quieter with more tech, hopefully including adaptive cruise control, whose absence from the $100K Model S isn't excusable. Then again, I don't think even the top end Model S is really suitable for long trips so maybe it doesn't matter.

The ELR gets my vote, and I plan to make it my next vehicle. I like the Tesla a lot, but the closest dealer is about 5 hours away, so I won't go that route. When I need service I want someone close to where I live, not 5 hours away. Plus if I am out of town and need service I know there is a GM dealer in practically every city in the country.

A compare of the ELR v. Tesla is not apples and oranges.
One is an EREV - the other BEV. One will take you 1000 miles in a day...

Also, in 5 years, what are the odds the company you buy from will be in existance?

I too will be in the market for a 2014, my first choice is a 2014 C7, my second is the ELR. While I love the Volt I want/need some spicy in my automotive life.

The ELR is still vaporware ... no pre-production units have been shown, only the 2+ year old car show mock-up

It takes close to 18 months for a car company to go from beta pre-production to production, so while people on this forum continue to post like its a done deal, its isn't. Nothing has been reported to the starting of a factory line, until this happens ( and the Volt sales can prove another EREV can be support by the market ), the Volt is the only EREV one can buy.
