    I made a simple timing measurement and found 0.7 m/s/s (http://gm-volt.com/forum/showthread....161#post159161).

    The regulatation for Stop Lamp Illumination has been cited before (http://gm-volt.com/forum/showthread....858#post158858). Here is the table provided by Section 5.2.22.4 of United Nations Addendum 12-H: Regulation No. 13-H Revision 2, "Uniform provisions concerning the approval of passenger cars with regard to braking," (http://www.unece.org/fileadmin/DAM/t...gs/R13hr2e.pdf, page 22):

    Electric regenerative braking systems as defined in paragraph 2.17., which produce a retarding force upon release of the accelerator control, shall generate the signal mentioned above according to the following provisions:

    <= 0.7 m/s/s The signal shall not be generated
    > 0.7 m/s/s and <= 1.3 m/s/s The signal may be generated
    > 1.3 m/s/s The signal shall be generated

    In all cases the signal shall be de-activated at the latest when the deceleration has fallen below 0.7 m/s/s.

    So if I am driving a regular car and just slightly press on the brakes, the lights will come on but the car will not slow down at the minimum required rate (0.7 m/s^2) and it would violate the cited regulation...

    Wait, did you say United Nations regulation? The same one with Russia and China in it with veto power?!

    No, if you hit the brake pedal (as opposed to just releasing the acceleator), the Brake Lamps must illuminate per Section 5.2.22.1:

    Activation of the service braking system by the driver shall generate a signal that will be used to illuminate the stop lamps.
    Maybe your post was entirely tongue-in-cheek!

    No, it was just a tongue

    The brake lights in L mode topic drives me insane. We SHALL NOT absolve people from the responsibility to pay attention and to drive safely regardless of the use of lights and signals. This means holding the steering wheel with both hands, keeping eyes on the road and the rear-view mirrors, keeping a safe distance from the vehicles in front and to the side, having a situational awareness, and keeping distractions at bay. It also means staying calm in control of oneself, not blaming everyone else and falling in uncontrollable road-rage tantrums. It also means having traffic police enforce safety laws and not just ambush speeders for an easy revenue stream.

    I am going to stop now. Good night!
