"The difference between winning and losing is often.....not quitting"
I like the back of the Volt except for one thing - the reverse light. It's useless, hard to see, and looks like my car is taking a glowing crap when I'm backing up. More than one parking lot near miss because no one walking or in a vehicle could tell I was about to back out. Now I always use the pedestrian honk before moving backwards because no one ever seems to see my reverse light.
You haven't seen the "Chevy runs deep" ads? Most show the beautiful rear end of a white Corvette.
It is the sexiest car in America (imports aren't worth a sh!t!) and any other car who races against one will see that rear end and remember it for a long while!
Buy American! Go GM!

No Volt yet
Another problem besides to aero concerns. I like the back of the Volt I do not like the back of the Forte. The Optima looks good so I have nothing inherently against Kia/Hundai back ends. I don't remember the Optima rear, though I did like the way the car looks overall. The Forte, not for me.
If you've read the story of the Volt that came in your welcome packet you'd understand why the back end was designed that way. They had the option of a long tapered end or a blunt end with the fins. The designers wanted a smaller looking car so decided against the taper. The blunt end keeps it tight and tricks the air for maximum aerodynamics. It won and I think looks great.
If it's of any consolation, they're in the process of redesigning the Forte as we speak. Check it out.

Ok, so in a perfect world, many people who don't like rear of the Volt would prefer it to look like the Kia. That's the great thing about a free society, everyone can have an opinion, and they all can be right and wrong.
I don't care what the Volt looks like, for me, I love the way it drives. And that leaves the Kia so far out of contention, it isn't even on the same planet as far as I'm concerned.

The only thing I don't like about the Volt backside is that it's a dirt magnet, and I live on an unpaved road. 1/4 mile of that and by then it's so dirty you can't see out the lower window. I do understand why it is the way it is, but that's not a great feature. The rest of the car sheds dirt fine - and mine is white. I pretty much have to take a rag with me to wipe off the lower back window as soon as I get to pavement if I want to be able to see out of it, unless my unpaved road is wet and therefore not dusty.

The Kia Forte just can't hold a candle to Nicki Minaj.
In all seriousness, DCFusor has identified a problem. The Volt's back gets dirty way too quick (even on paved, dry roads). I wonder if it would benefit from mud flaps on the rear wheel wells.
