It's also an exaggeration of the house. It is Gore's family house that's been in the family for ages. He didn't live there or do anything with it as VP. After though, he and Tipper spent thousands making it carbon neutral. He also purchased carbon offsets. That political hit piece on his house was published when Gore was in the middle of renovations.

What happens when a house is under renovation? Doors get left open for work crews. Saws, drills, work lights, compressors et al. get plugged in. Windows get removed and replaced. Drywall comes down for new insulation. Doing all this in hot and humid Tennessee, energy costs are bound to get massive.

Also, Bush's house was brand new. Just built during the campaign in 2000, by Hollywood set builders as a political showpiece to give him his Texan cred. His new house should've had modern, energy saving materials. He's still afraid of horses.

I never understood the seething hatred for Al Gore.

I never heard of the Bush home until 2005 . At the time , Gore owned 4 homes . Each used more than 10 times the average amount of energy because they were heating giant swimming pools year round . Maybe people hate Gore because of his good ol' boy KKK and tobacco ties .

Yeah, I read those "10 times" charges many times. I've just never found any facts to substantiate it. I don't hate Al Gore. I think he's a good man... At least he became one after he left the poison of politics behind.

The second issue is climate change (stuffed into an even smaller space). Hey - it has to start somewhere. If the Republicans would have the courage to admit they were wrong about these 2 issues, I think they would win in November.

If gaining political office has anything to do with money, it is hard to see how turning off a commercial and industrial base that is committed to stopping any changes at all, being effected based on climate science, would be successful.
