I'm absolutely thrilled with what GM engineers accomplished for today and the next 10 years or so, but I do think of it as a bridge . Don't get me wrong, I'm not trading a Volt for a Nissan Leash any time even if they added another 50 miles to it .

Who knows , maybe the 400 lbs will be an even trade for future battery weights . It's also hard to say how much infrastructure will be needed . I feel 120v will probably be replaced by 240 V @ 30 amps or more very soon and will account for 90 % of charging .

According to Tesla (could be b.s. because Musk is trying to sell electric cars) it takes 5 kWh of electricity to refine 1 gallon of gasoline . Also we can charge 100 million Volts at night off peak hours without changing a thing .

It doesn't seem nearly as difficult or expensive as the other ideas I've seen posted like the " electric highway " or nuclear fusion power .

If I wanted one I would have bought the Leaf, last March I made a 1,650 + mile trip to NY a leaf would not work out. Most likley any future long trips will be with my pick up truck pulling my camper but I still want the option to drive more than 100 miles. A couple weeks ago I drove a moving truck to SC and left my truck and camper in NY, it cost me about $250 to rent a car to get back to NY but assuming I didn't have the truck I would want to rent a car every time I wanted to drive 100 miles (only 50 miles each way.

I have a stable family, so it works out nicely that we have 2 cars, one of which is a hybrid and good for long trips, leaving the other open to being a shorter range commuter. So I like the idea of having of BEV. Still, I want to be able to get to the neighboring town and back where I have family and friend connections, which for me would require about 300 miles to get there and back safely. I then selected 360 in the poll, as the extra 60 would prevent end of trip and long term ownership range anxiety.

I've driven 1500 miles in a 24 hour period a couple of times. But, if I were doing that, it would be a planned trip, and I'd just rent a gas car/van.
