2012 RED Volt VIN:#C-8860 - Premium Leather Seats Jet Black with Dark Trim, Rear Camera & Park Assist, Nav
09/29/2011 Ordered -- 11/15/2011 took it home
Hi Julian, welcome! I passed 10k miles on mine a few weeks ago, and I'm loving it. I've seen quite a few more Volts around the Metroplex lately. I'll give you a wave if you're ever in the Frisco or Carrollton areas.
Note to other DFW-area drivers: Ecotality had been waiting to get a few replacement Blink units on-hand. There were a few around with bad touch screens (they replaced one of our four in Carrollton at Carrier Enterprise HQ, and they fixed one of the two I reported in Fair Park). So hopefully, most of the out-of-commission units in the area will be coming back online.

I had a 2007 Impala SS , A 2007 BMW 530i with 6-speed manual, and traded my 2009 Cadillac CTS on the Volt.
The Volt is by far my favorite .
2012 Volt - Veridian Joule , Two tone Leather - placed into service 8/3/2012
2012 Volt - Summit White - Leather with Bose . placed into service 6/5/2012
Level 2 Blink EVSE , Best Charge 52.3 miles .
Best full gallon of gas - 48.8 Mpg.
Mine was a classic: 1995 540i M-Sport (http://www.kindel.com/bmw/m540_info.htm). Basically it was an M5, which they did not make that year, with a smooth and powerful 8-cylinder instead of traditional 6-cylinder. Only 230 Sports were brought into North America. Many consider it the finest sports sedan ever created, by any car company.
But IMHO, my 2011 Volt trumps it by a mile! :-)

I sold my '97 BMW M3 to get a Leaf.
Then sold my '02 Mercedes E55 AMG to get the Volt
It is interesting how many new EV owners had BMWs previously.

Wow I came back a day after my post and all these great replies, thanks everyone for the warm welcome!
It's been really great to read up on the Volt from the knowledgeable owners and enthusiasts here. I got all my pre-sales questions answered here before I even stepped foot on the dealership lot -- so I want to especially thank this site and folks here for that.
So many BMW vets here, I'm going to feel right at home. I think I loved my e39 540i the most of cars I previously owned, but this Volt holds so much interest for me. I can relate to what you're saying @Slapshot28. My e46 was in absolutely stunning condition (I babied it)...yet the dealership got a heckuva deal since I really wanted to make the switch to a Volt.
So far I've been having fun hypermiling and seeing my max efficiency on the way to work. My commute is from West Richardson to Uptown Dallas, approx 14.5 miles / 29 roundtrip and I've been routinely getting home with more 5-8 miles left on the battery. But at the same time, I've also driven in Sport mode and in L gear during short stop/go Uptown errands. Man, Sport mode + L gear _feels_ so peppy like I'm driving a stick!
@cab I love the post, very informative and a great-read from another e39 enthusiast's perspective.
@justindal & @dallasvolt -- cool to see other Dallas Volt drivers on here! There need to be some EV meetups in North Texas! I agree with you about the BMW a/c systems @justindal, they weren't the best up through the late 90s but the e39 and e46's seemed to get a lot better in my experience. But the maintenance was indeed quite the wallet killer.
@cheezmo -- I agree it is very interesting how many EV owners were BMW owners. BTW you aren't THE Steve Martin are you?![]()
@cord -- thx for the tip on the VIN. Updated my sig.
Thanks again EVERYONE for the warm welcome! I hope to participate and be able to contribute or help out in the great discussions around here!
Julian

We sold our 2010 porsche cayman for a volt, now with that said I have a baby due in two weeks, however we looked at everything and this car is really cool! I say it's like driving a video game, also the deal is unbeatable for what you get!
