Well if someone had told me 5 years ago that I would be driving back and forth to work on electricity and not using any gas I would have told them they were crazy. So I wouldn't rule out anything. But probably not in my lifetime, LOL.

How about something like a giant pneumatic tube? If we can talk about boring giant tunnels for miles under the Sacramento - San Joaquin Delta to carry water, why not bore tunnels from L.A. to S.F. for this contraption? All it takes is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$, hahaha.
