    Default rear window washer/wiper

I find that the rear window accumulates dust rapidly and then clouds view. I have to clean the window every other day to have a clear view. Washer/wiper would resolve issue.

I agree that they should have included this in design no matter what the reasoning is. To help with this I use rainx on the back glass also and at least it sheds rain water faster to give better view. It doesn't do anything for the dust I know.

Add a little wiper on the window below the lip because that thing is a filth magnet. Rain-X helps, but once it dries it's damn near opaque. It's really bad in the winter.

The rear window doesn't bother me as much as how so much dirt/sand collects in the corners of the hatch where it meets the bumper.

When asked about adding a rear wiper/washer to the Volt, Bob Lutz said (at a recent Detroit doing) that he didn't think there was room. His suggestion was: Rain-X. I'd also like to see some front seat/passenger 'grab-handles' and memory seats!

I don't understand why more cars don't have a rear wiper. It's usually only on SUV's, crossovers, and hatchbacks (except the Volt). It's one thing I've missed from my Rav4.

Which rear window are we referring to, the big one or the little one? I thought the big one would need a wiper, but after over a year of driving I have never had the dust or dirt issue there. Now, the little window is another story, but I really don't use that much. I wash the car weekly, so that helps too. Maybe I'm not in as dusty an area of others. Picked up my Volt in Long Island. It did not strike me as a dusty place but I was not there long,

@Steverino: From our winter experience here in Detroit (even last year, which had minimal snow), we need a rear wiper for the big window. We have situations where even with the backlight heating elements and LOTS of Rain-X, snow accumulates and now a car, that has limited rearward visibility regardless of weather, is impossible to see out of to the rear. The 'little' lower window is not such an issue in my experience. Would like a washer-wiper for the main rear window! As. In. Please?

I was expecting the usual big snows here in Chicago. I too had Rain-X'd my window exteriors. Had my snow wheels mounted and had one of those "Sno Plow" semi-soft foam, non scratching garden hoes on a stick from AutoZone in the cargo bay for cleaning off the car windows (it works well).

After a week or so I took the wheels off. We really did not get enough snow to warrant the tread wear. P.S. I do not recommend the interior Rain-X product. It did not defog the windows and made the view wavy as well.

    @ jogginjeff,

We have heard others that have had similar issues with the rear window. I will definitely pass yours along with everyone else's comments along regarding a rear wiper/washer.
