    Uptate:

2 days ago I unrolled my 100 feet extension cord (it was all twisted)... and actually it started charging normally again.

Yesterday I went to the store and had my cord cut to 65 feet (+ another 35 feet cord); still on 12 gauge though, apparently it wasn't possible to have a 10 gauge..

Well anyways, it works now, hoping it stays like that for good.

Of course, I have another question: should I unplug my 120V Voltec charger from the extension cord whenever I am not using it? Or does it matter?

    New problem...

So I did what I said in previous thread (cut my extension cord, untwist it).

Worked perfectly until 2 days ago.

Now randomly, after 1-5 hours (unlike the 1-2 mins previously), the unit stops charging and the red flashes lights again .

I tried the 8 amps, and seems to work so far.

Any thought on why it happens now all of a sudden? And suggestions (keep in mind that I live in an appartment building, it might be hard to have work done on the electrical system unless I convince my landlord...)

    Thanks

My guess is along the line of the others in here. Bad electrical connections don't necessarily go completely open at once. Somewhere along the line there is a connection(s) that is slowly developing a high resistance (that may only be detectable under load). As that connection worsens, it will start to drop more voltage at that point. When you shortened your cord, the portion that is no longer there would have caused an increase in your voltage available at the charger. If the bad connection is in the outlet or further up, there may come a point where you wouldn't be able to charge even directly plugged into that outlet.
Your best bet is to convince your landlord to allow an electrician to replace that outlet (at your cost) and let the electrician know what you are doing. If block heaters are a normal thing where you live then your landlord might be used to this type of thing. If I were in your shoes, I wouldn't plug back into that outlet until someone had inspected it. You aren't just taking a chance with your own home.

I still say a Volt owner needs a Volt meter.
    At least a 3 prong 120 V unit not a VOM ( Volt-Ohm -meter)
