Default Ford C-MAX Energi PHEV takes aim at the Prius Plug-in

Touting the specs for its new PHEV this week, Ford staked out a clear position for it in the market: face-to-face with a certain hit Japanese hatchback. The new C-MAX Energi is projected to deliver 550 miles of total range, and 20 miles in electric-only mode, nearly double the electric-only range of the Toyota Prius Plug-in... Newswire >

Given the price has not been announced, it's hard to say how this will stack up against the PiP.

I agree... Without a real price. It's hard to say if it's a better or worse value than a PIP.

As long as the driver doesn't go too fast, accelerate too hard or drive up an incline (like a parking garage).

Ford had years to see what everyone else was doing and decided to make the CME a non-EV. Way to go Ford

I see they are using the "total range is 550 miles" trick. That is like saying "300 mile battery". What is of utmost importance is the mpg in their CS-mode. Unless they hit 45 or 46 mpg CS-mode, it'll be hard to convince people to jump-ship from the Prius. Isn't the C-Max using an atkinson-cycle engine? If so, maybe they do hit 46mpg and 20-miles AER. Not too bad and would be a big-win in workplaces which offer a lot of 120V plug-in spots for PiHV's which I think will be far more prevelant than 220V charging stations.
