    Default SPX 240V Charger Incentives

Since we're a 2-Volt family, we're looking into purchasing a 240V charger from SPX. It seems like a lot of folks on here are getting the charger for around $500 installed. We live in PA, which doesn't appear to offer any incentives for chargers, so we'll be relying on the federal tax credit to make this affordable. I found the 8911 form on the IRS website and it doesn't appear to give us anywhere close to $1,000 back. It says $1,000 or 30% of the total cost, whichever is less. Assuming the install is $1,500, we would only receive a $450 tax credit. Am I missing something? How is everyone else receiving $1,000 tax credits?

I just gone over the form 8911, and believe me im no expert with taxes, it does not say anything about electric refueling,
It does list ,Biofuels, hydrogen,But i didnt read anything on electric,
I live in new york and theres no incentives for the level 2 charger that we can find ,so if theres any way to use this form for some kind of rebate that would be great

I don't think the federal credit for charger installs is still in effect. I believe it expired Dec 31, 2011.

Additionally, many who tried to take the 2011 credit could not get it as a result of claiming the $7500 credit on the volt causing tentative minimum tax issues. Thanks uncle Sam!

SPX is probably one of the best deals out there. I actually had them install a FREE ChargePoint EVSE and a separate "Time of Use" meter service for FREE. I paid nothing out of pocket. The original estimate came in around $650 "out of pocket". Since my local power company also had a program to cover the "out of pocket" cost I was 100% covered.

I went ahead and had SPX start the work. We had a few setbacks with the electrical permits. Eventually SPX offered to install the whole thing at ZERO cost. SPX covered the entire installation for FREE. It's hard to beat FREE.

The only advise I can give you is when SPX comes back with the estimate. Continue to negotiate. Politely ask them if they can do better on the price. They seem to respond favorably to price negotiation.

Also check with your power company... Sometimes they also offer programs to help pay for EVSE's and installation. I does not hurt to ask about programs.

SPX is sending out one of their installers for a free estimate. I will definitely ask about "is this the lowest you can go???"
    Thanks, Bob

I used SPX to put in my 240v charging station in Los Angeles. With the $1200 DOE funded incentive that is offered here my out of pocket was around $400. But that was after i negotiated it down. We started at around $700 out of pocket. The electrician told me that it took him a lot of time to process the permit paperwork so I offered to wait until he had another customer in my same jurisdiction to split that time. That saved me $300.

Paperwork for an electrician at what per hour? $100/hr for 4 hours? That's like $200K income per year

In PA, Harrisburg is under PP&L I believe. They may have some plans in the future but legislators in PA barely can spell "EV". The smart-meter plans of PECO in SE PA is long overdue and they are barely starting any work with it - and they got $200 Million from DoE to do it. DoE's money is very attractive (to SPX and others).

My county charged $77.00 for the permit and the electrician's estimate was $200.00 so really he charged $123.00 to go to the county offices, wait in line, get the permit and travel time back to his office. No one should work for free and it sounded fair and reasonable to me. My out of pocket for my Blink charger was $298.00. Seemed like a fair deal to me regardless of who is raping who over at SPX and the DOE.
