Great stories guys. Does anyone have a print out of some general facts about the Volt or do you just always try to make time to talk? You have to be in a hurry sometimes...
I like these stories better than "My Volt became a brick today". Those stories make me a little apprehensive cuz I'm not sure how good the dealers are around the East Bay area.
Thanks.
Dave

I took my Volt to my usual car wash as it's been too hot for me to hand wash my cars and at first they treated my Volt as any other car and I went in to pay then go back and watch it go through the wash, I was surprised there was someone sitting in the drivers seat.
later on the dry line I asked the manager what that was about and he said it was there first Volt and wanted someone in the car to monitor the electronics.
We both had a laugh and as I was getting in to leave one of the kids doing the drying says "at least no one was electocuted".
But I encounter folks all the time that want to speak with me about my Volt. I actually get more interaction with strangers than I have with any Vette I've ever owned.
We are all ambassador's for the Volt and I always take time time answer questions and even show then the car or let folks sit in it. I also allowed a few folks to drive it.

I'm at the gas station every day. I work there. It starts some very interesting conversations. I explain how I wouldn't trade it and I like how it can use two very well established infrastructures to make it go. Of course I have to add that at 6300 miles, I've used 9.9 gallons of gas. I even caught the interest of an Insight driver with over 200,000 miles. Said it was the original battery too.

I've had the opposite reactions, namely, people so curious as to how I find the car and if it truly goes 60+km on a charge. When I say it does and say I'm willing to show them the displays, they usually sit in the car and gawk. Especially at the 1.3l/100km the car displays as "lifetime fuel economy". I usually have to convert that to 180mpg and then they go slack jawed. At this point they ask about going on longer trips and I say I've gone to Maxville, Merickville, Montreal and after the first 60km of electrons it switches to using the gas generator. Inevitably they claim they want one as their next car.
On Thursday a good friend in the high tech industry asked me about it repeatedly as he's looking for a new car. Knowing I've put 14,000km on it so far and one winter he knows the numbers are fantastic. Considering he's currently driving a v8 sedan and no longer requires the space -- he's an empty nester now -- I'm sure the Volt is making a lot of sense, especially as we spent a goodly portion of the afternoon drinking Beau's and talking about retirement. Sadly, he's closer to that than am I but then he's got a decade on me.
I am fortunate that my nearest Tier 1 gas station, Shell, charges $4 for a basic wash regardless of whether or not you buy gas. Anyhow, the last time I went through for a wash, the owner asked me: "Are you ever going to buy any gas?" So, I went/came back and bought five gallons of regular for the mower... He enjoyed 'that' ;o)

Come to think of it my lawn mower does use much more fuel than my Volt! LOL
Yes people are always amazed at the real world mileage I am getting. At work I am one of the guys that have a longer commute. I keep reminding the people that live closer that they wouldn't have to buy gas at all if they had one. I think it is slowly sinking in to some of them. Though we don't have ev facilities in the parking lot yet so the fact that I am the only guy that needs to plug in, lets me sneak a charge in where I wouldn't be able too if there were more of us with ev's. I'm still poking at the GTAA to install something in our parking lot. Some day soon I hope they will.
