I usually wash my car at home but I've had a few instances where I'm in a rush, the cars awfully dusty, (we've had a*terribly dry summer this year), or the bugs are just too thick on the front of my*car, that I've decided to go through the car wash at the gas station. I've done this about four times since I've owned the Volt and each time I always get a weird response from the gas station attendant.*
It's always the "Wait, you're not getting gas? You want to pay for a car wash without getting gas?... That costs more you know?!?"
(This is when they look at you like you have something weird growing out of your forehead!)
Inevitably I have to explain I drive an electric car and I haven't *put gas in it since March, 11th of March actually, and no I don't want to fill up with 25 L of gas, that I can't fit my tank anyways, just to get a two dollar discount on a car wash.... LOL.*
First the statements come, "you mustn't drive very far to work"
Me: "55km each way actually"
Them: "I bet you don't go too fast"
Me: " I got a speeding ticket on the 400 last week(I'm still pissed about that!)"
Then come the questions...
"How far have you gone since you've filled up*?"
Me:" 6600km so far and I've still got a third of a tank!"
Them:" It must be expensive. I wish I could afford a car like that..."
Me:" You probably can, seeing as you won't be paying for gas like you are now."
That usually leaves them thinking, and I take my receipts and go off to get my car wash.
P.S. *None of them have been quick enough yet to ask "If it's an electric car what you need gas for anyways?" *I'm waiting for that one, and if she's cute, I'm going to see if she wants to go for a coffee after work!!*LOL
