Unhappy Why we are doomed burning fossil fuels

Below is a link to a really good article that just appeared in Rolling Stone magazine, by Bill McKibben of 350.org . It gives an interesting analysis of what the burning of current fossil fuel leases will do to the planet.

Just one more reason that EVERYONE should be buying a Chevy Volt.

You wonder if a few more people might actually connect a few more dots after half of our corn crop gets ruined this year

From the original thread link:"The new data provide further evidence that the door to a two-degree trajectory is about to close," said Fatih Birol, the IEA's chief economist. In fact, he continued, "When I look at this data, the trend is perfectly in line with a temperature increase of about six degrees." That's almost 11 degrees Fahrenheit, which would create a planet straight out of science fiction."

Definitely eye opening shock value article. The wife and I suspected as much and while she is the big motivator here I think we have done some major reductions in footprint and for the right reasons keeping our costs fixed. OK that came from me.

This is sad.... realistically speaking....the world needs rehab NOW from its heroin (fossil fuel) addiction....

I feel that we are in for some rough times ahead......humans have been living lavishly for the past 50 or so years with careless regard for the climate/planet......depleting fresh water supplies carelessly...abundant fossil fuel usage....destroying rainforests.....etc.....I watched a documentary about the impending failure of the infrastructure in America.....it was estimated that million of gallons of fresh water leak out of the underground pipes.....contaminated and gone for good.......we really need to open our eyes.....it seems that everyone has adopted this ME ME ME lifestyle that has blurred the big picture.....if we keep at this pace....there will be no planet for ME ME ME to be in.....

    Great link, thank you.
Another thing that is even easier to do, everyone look at buying as local as you can. The energy used to transport your goods is mostly oil as well. And similar to the Volt, the more local you buy the more you help the local economy.
It doesn't have to be absolutely everything you buy, but the more you can do this the bigger the impact.
