Bigotry is the state of mind of a "bigot", a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices; especially: one who regards or treats the members of a group (for example as a racial or ethnic group or group with opposing views) with hatred and intolerance. Bigotry is defined on a personal level and may be based on real or perceived characteristics, including race, ethnicity, nationality, sex, region, language, religious or spiritual belief, personal habits, political alignment such as conservative versus liberal, pro business, anti-government versus pro government, age, economic status or disability, dissension to popular opinions, sexual orientation, or gender identity. Bigotry is sometimes developed into an ideology or world view.
Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr. described bigotry in the following quotation: "The mind of a bigot is like the pupil of the eye; the more light you pour upon it, the more it will contract."
Pretty cranked up about a car.it is just a car. No one is being starved, shot, killed, raped. It is just a car. So much angst over a car and how it is perceived. It is just a car.
His vitriol (defined as a bitterly abusive feeling or expression.) is directed towards a group. Has nothing to do with the car.
The Volt is just a car. A great car, but just a car. Who cares how it is perceived by another group? So much expressed anger over a car.
We're talking about the kind of people who just tried to destroy the career of Secretary Clinton's assistant because of her relatives' politics.
Does anyone think that they care one bit about the US auto workers, the US manufacturer, the US troops that are getting killed with weapons bought with oil money, or anything but their personal bottom lines?
I'd say ignore them and they'll go away but they won't go away so we need to fight lies with truth every chance we get. The Volt benefits the driver, our country, and our planet. It's worth defending.
Jon Stewart did a great bit on this fiasco last night. He showed a graphic of Bachmann's convoluted logic and then showed that HSBC has donated money to her campaigns and, as it turns out, HSBC is laundering money for drug cartels and terrorists so that graphic was pretty simple: terrorists-->HSBC-->Bachmann. LOL, now who's the terrorist?
Not really name calling. Merely telling it like it is. He meets the definition of a "bigot". You may not like it (and neither do I), but it is not name calling. He is also a Volt fan. Just a fact. He hates Fox news. Just a fact. he hates anyone who does not love the volt without reservation. Just a fact. He hates anyone who finds fault with a Volt. Just a fact. I wish he did not act and sound like a bigot. It pains me to have to define bigotry. But in this case, we need to show folks what a bigot is by defining a bigot.
Also, bigots really don't need to be avoided or protected. They are the elephant in the room that no one wants to talk about. They need to be dealt with directly. Taking the "high ground" just let bigots continue unchecked. Bigotry unchecked just continues. If we don't confront a bully, they continue to be a bully. If we don't confront a bigot, they continue to be a bigot. Failure to confront bullies and bigots just means they continue to be bullies and bigots. If we don't confront a racist, racism continues. Niceties are lost on them.
Now, if you know of a taking the high ground approach to dealing with bigots, please show me how it is done. Maybe the high road is a better approach. I would love to see the high road at work.
