Default Original 120V charger near death

I'm a 2012 Volt owner and have been using the 120V charger. Recently it has constantly gone hot and shuts itself down.

I called OnStar and they said theres a recall on the original unit. Its been 3 days and I haven't got a call from my dealership or anyone.

I'm forced to put gas in the car to drive around and that defeats the purpose altogether. When will I get a call?

You haven't gotten a call from your dealer so you're going to ask us when they'll call you? How would we know? Last I checked the phone was a two way communication device. Call your dealer and your Volt Advisor and get a new EVSE for Pete's sake. I don't want to be mean but I don't understand the course of action (or inaction).

Did you take your Volt in for the battery enhancement and/or the airbag check? I got my new EVSE during a visit for those things.

Just bring your ESEV to the dealer, they give you a new replacement ....

My 120v charger cord gets quit warm. Should I contact my dealer or is that normal? Haven't had a failure of any sort yet.

My dealer never called me about the cord, I found out about it on here and just brought my old one in when I took the car for the battery recall. They should swap it out with little to no hassle.

Make sure you have the wire completely un-coiled ... I mounted by ESEV 1" off the wall using stand-offs, made a big difference in keeping the base unit cooler

My cord is usually room temperature, and maybe a slightly a little higher, but I would not say it is "quite warm", though.

When I plugged in a 50 ft 12 guage extension cord, it was warm to hot to the touch--but, I also left it coiled up. Next time I will uncoil it so the heat can better escape.

You may want to see if you get the same problem at a different plug, or better yet, ask your local dealership if you can try another charger.

I this is the 3 time I posted these words today but "have you tried the 8 amp setting on the charger cord " ?
having only 2 of the 4 green light lit.

It sure it's possible the unit will shutdown if too hot . If you want try a test - move the unit out of the sun or try a fan on the unit

If you have the original 120V charger return it to your dealer who will replace it free of charge for a new/improved unit.
