This website is for discussions of the Volt. Rehashing the false allegations of President Obama's birthplace has absolutely no relevance to the Volt or even the politics of the Volt. We need to stay on topic. And that topic is not this "birther" crap.

When you can cite an example where a non conservative publication or media property went on an anti Volt diatribe - let alone the clearly orchestrated Fox News anti-Volt campaign from a few months ago - then your assertion might get some consideration. I'm not saying all conservatives did that or that all conservatives share that view, but it definitely isn't a "well, they all did it" situation.

By the way just a short history clarification, Al Gore never claimed to invent the Internet. That also was a conservative meme that continues to be false.

That is your opinion. Others here think that the politics *are* relevant to the Volt.

Bob, you are right, not a day goes by without someone blaming a conservative for some issue with the Volt. It is very political. A great idea and car, then company taken over by the goverment, bailouts, subsidies, hidden battery failures, and people WONDER why these things are questioned. When they are, they like to blame FOX and conservatives. When they think everything GM and Obama do is perfect and doesn't deserve any investigating, then that's when we have a problem. The birther thing is not over, way too many loose ends and questions unanswered. If Obama wouldn't have hidden this info, we wouldn't have anything to question. I'm not a birther, but when I can go right down and get PROPER records of my birth, I have to wonder why others can't.

Also, politics were not the origin of this thread???? Give me a break.

I too consider myself a conservative, but today I'd be called a RINO. So be it. I make decisions based on the facts (to the extent possible), and I put country before party.

Unfortunately, there is no way to completely remove the politics from the Volt- or any other car that involves "green" technology and subsidies. I ran into the same issue when trying to have an intelligent discussion on the Motor Trend site.

It's a shame in some ways, but the Volt is just not "any old car". It is a paradigm shift and it touches many sensitive issues.

The Politics are just as real and just as hard to ignore as the smirks I get from some people when simply driving past them in my car.

But the "Birther" thing? Give me a break. That has no place here.

If there is a moderator around, please move this thread to the Politics forum. I like to read this stuff but it really isn't part of Volt Ownership experience unless you carpool with birthers with your radio tuned to Fox.

I like birthers (truth). Some of my best friends are birthers (also truth). I'd even let my daughter marry one (if he had a good job).

I find the birther question completely absurd. No one can really think that 50 years ago people planted birth announcements in a newspaper because they knew this newborn would one day become president of the United States and they didn't want anyone to know he was actually born in Kenya. Seriously? If they knew all that why not just have him be born in the US. Also what's funny is that John McCain was NOT born in the US.

I do, however, agree with you that Obama should have released his birth certificate sooner. My guess is that he was just exasperated with the whole idea of having his citizenship questioned and just decided he wouldn't do it. But in the end he did release it, and that has quieted all but the true wing nuts.

PS -- Per requests did move the thread to Politics.

uh oh! Fox news just reported a problem with some Ford Vehicles, and oh gasp, they used a picture of a FORD Escape Hybrid. But wait, I only thought they were against Obama's car. Hmm, a news organization reporting problems with car. What a concept.
