The black plastic outlet boxes actually came from Lowe's, but I would think that HD would have the same ones as well, which is where everything else was purchased from.

The thick black cable/cord does not come pre-sold in a package. It would normally have to come off of one of those spools that a store employee would cut to length for you. HD was about to close, and I happened to notice a rack with various types of cords that must have been over-cut pieces or un-needed returns. There happened to be a 12/3 Romex cord of 15' in length which was calling my name.

My rule of shopping at HD and Lowe's is to do it like you're buying PVC plumbing for a job: Always buy more than you think you'll need! What you don't use, you can simply return on your next visit for the next project and get store credit, or a refund if within 30 days.

I actually just stopped by HD last night to see if they got in the 30amp versions of the Twist-Lock wall socket/receptacle and Plug, and they did. They also had the "Female Plug" end for a cord so I could make a my adapter for being able to plug into a NEMA-1450 outlet.

But then I got home, and checked my own drier outlet receptacle......and its a NEMA-1430 socket. LOL Now I'll have to make another adapter!

However, I experienced sticker-shock when I got to the checkout lane. The Twist-Lock 250v 30amp female socket/plug to go on a cable, was $39! The male end and wall receptacle units were at least $20 each. However, now I can go get a refund for the 20amp Twist-Lock versions since I saved the packaging and receipt.

    couple other questions

    1. it appears then that you can wire the inbound wire to either the left or right side. is that right?
    2. it looks like you put some sort of anti bend guard on the cord thatgoes into the voltec. isnthatnright?

To make the 240 V easier to remove, I would mount it to a piece of plywood slightly larger than the unit. then you can mount the unit to the plywood with carriage bolts from the back (make sure they aren't too long), or use T-nuts in the plywood, either way. Then mount the plywood on some studs on the wall with some wing nuts. I have mine mounted to plywood, and then mounted to the wall using screws. I did it for another reason, (I didn't need it to be removable) but it doesn't matter. I just use the 120V when traveling and burn gas some. If I had a weekend cabin or somewhere else I visited a lot, I would consider it. Great pics.

    1. When wiring a 240v line, the GREEN GROUND WIRE is GROUND as always just like it is on a 120v application. The BLACK WIRE, which is normally to go to the breaker's HOT terminal is the same. For the WHITE WIRE however, that does not go to the COMMON bar, but instead goes to the remaining HOT terminal of the Dual-Pole 240v breaker. This doubling of 120v is how you get double the voltage.

Just in case some people might not be aware of this, each contact location that breakers dock into, are alternating which of the two main 120v leads that come into your service panel. This is why you need a two-pole circuit breaker that has its switch bridged together. One is docking onto the MAIN coming in on the left, and the other contact of the "2-breakers-in-one" is docking into a terminal that is powered by the other MAIN on the right.

    2. I think you're talking about this image:

If so, the cord you see in the lower right coming out of the housing is the cable that goes to the J1772 connector that plugs into your car. The SPX charging station comes with this already connected. In that photo, I had not yet installed the power-in cable to the unit. That comes in on the lower left area. It stays secured via a 3/4" threaded fitting that the cord runs through and has a clamp built into that fitting so that when you screw it down, it holds the cord in place instead of the cord being held by 3 wire terminal lugs just above it.

I have this EVSE on order, and need to connect it to a 14-50 pigtale, so this is relevant to me. Just to be sure, I will connect the red to red, the black to black, and the green to green. Does the white get connected to green, or does it just not get connected to anything at all?
