I believe the future looks a lot like the Cincinnati Zoo. Recently we had a safety day for the power company I work for at the Zoo. You can't help notice all the solar canopies to park under. I hope and think you will see in the very near future new businesses taking this approach to their parking areas . The cost of overhead ,and energy to run a restaurant or business is extremely high. You could provide shelter from the sun and weather along with charging for vehicles and a reduction in your operating cost for your tenants. Developers would receive tax credits. I really think in the next 10 years you will see some huge changes with solar power. The cost is finally becoming more practical.

As a power company we are already planning and for the use of solar fields and the installing equipment needed to distribute it along with our conventional system.

I could not agree with you more.
I went to school at UC so I followed the project closely.
The panels do not supply all the power but they do help pay for large chunk of it.

It is really a no brainer for fixing the cost of you electricity for the next 15-30 years.
The price of solar is just plummeting.
It is almost negligent for smart businesses and towns to not consider this.
Furthermore, with a tight building and air source heat pumps you can heat and cool buildings very efficiently.
I look forward to the days when houses do not have furnaces anymore just baseboard electric heat back up and heat pumps.

Local Solar Installer here just bought a Volt : They installed a Level II charging station at the Solar Store. For anyone in Maine NH come on down for a demo July 26 2012 5-8 pm!

Have to say, I hope the elections turn out well for keeping us directed at ending the $400 billion dollars of yearly payments to oil barons. McCain, Obama and Bush all seemed to offer a decent chance to seek alternatives. Romney doesn't seem to get it.

We are members to the zoo. The solar array is really a marvel to look at and teach kids.
I just wish they had an EVSE so we could charge when visiting.

So very cool. Our zoo has a few powering a few street lamps, and claims to be "green" but I can't figure out how to get them to install a single 110V outlet or EVSE
