Cool If I "Drop Ship" a MY2013 Volt From Hamtramck To My Home Or Business

Greeting Voltage, I am considering "Drop Shipping" a Volt from an out of state Dealer, to My home or business. I was just wondering if any anyone out there has any advice on this "delivery option"? I do not mind removing plastic or other packing, but is there other "prep" issues with a new Volt? Does a dealer need to do any set-up on computers, or any other things? I really don't care about a full charge, or tank of gas. Are the Volts "Plug & Play"
directly from Hamtramck???? Thanks for any input...

I believe its a little more than removing plastic from the car. They will need to inspect and prep the vehicle for many things as well. I wouldn't get to much in a rush. Do you not want your dealer to go over everything with you? If something was wrong or missing on the car, it would be hard to prove who's responsible for that. It protects everyone, you and GM.

"Plug n play" lol... Your not bringing home a $200 ipod. How old are you?

GM will only release the car to a Chevrolet dealer, so that it can go through the entire PDI process and state sales tax and licensing fees will be paid through the dealer at that time as well. I have done more than a few courtesy deliveries and it MUST be done through a GM dealer. In the Volt's case, it MUST be done through a Chevrolet dealer! No way around that.

I suspect the prep is not much, but could be wrong. My windows were dirty, the battery only partially charged and the dealer's car instruction was pretty fast. I also found some plastic they did not remove. I'm glad I had read the manual first. The dealer spent more time connecting me to OnStar for a "buy some minutes" sales pitch than on car operation. I have my car serviced at a different dealer.

If you want to avoid "new toy eyes" hand wash the car when you pick it up. Goofy? Sure. I have not tried this, but I know someone who does this with every new car he buys. I can see how you'd find any small scratch, botched paint job or ding that you might otherwise miss in your excitement.

I guess I should have told you that a dealer has told me that he could "drop ship" it directly to me. (Without first going to his dealership). I have many things shipped to my business. I have heard of other people "shipping" Volts on this Forum. I guess they first were "preped" at the sellers dealership. Maybe this salesman was full of it...

That link is in the FAQ, and has some details on what the dealers do when they get a new Volt.

The specific form is here - http://gm-volt.com/forum/attachment....8&d=1292719596

Impressive PDI !!! Six weeks ago I bought a 2012 Prius wagon, and Toyota just handed me the keys and said "have fun".

    Default Buy and drive!!!

Drove test Volt in Tacoma WA Oct 2010, really impressed, saw entry on this forum in early 2011 for a buyer in Detroit who could not complete the purchase (gave dealer contact info), called and completed purchase, flew from Seattle, drove back solo in 4 days with a tour thru the GM Tech Center battery test facility early in the drive, stopped for daytime rest stops at Chevy dealerships along I90 route. Fun, fun, fun!!!

Default I had a car drop shipped.

Actually was easier than going to the dealer. You will need a copy of your driver's license, and all the papers signed, along with an insurance card. The car was instantly ready when delivered. I think they put a paper of some kind on the front probably to keep rock dings from happening. When I showed up at home, 100% ready to roll. The owner's dad delivered the car on a flat bed trailer.

I apologize, I mean't easier than me going to the dealership, but yes, they needed to prep the car first, which is basically all the laws behind point of sale, and all that. I really don't believe you can have this car purchased from a dealer than direct shipped. Honestly, I only had the car shipped because I couldn't find the car I wanted in Colorado - White Diamond fully loaded at invoice pricing.
