Not sure how many people have to post this its normal, and yes it stops when you pull the ESEV cable

Your idea of what hot is and the car, sealed in a garage is don't have to agree, the car always wins!.

Just ignore the car, it can make a wide array of noises, its all normal, go back in house and think about something else that needs your shrink's attention ( The volt doesn't need therapy )

Henry, you know it is normal, I know it is normal, but for the novice Volt owner or for the random passer by, an electric car, which is known to be extremely quiet when moving, to make such a loud racket while just sitting there could be alarming. Just to ignore odd behavior from the $40k+ extremely complex and relatively new technology car is not a rational reaction.

Yah, so many side effects of having a near silent driving car. We have countless threads of complaints of all sorts of noises, that in an ICE wouldn't even be noticed.

I had not used the ICE at all that day. Does it make sense that the loud fan type of noise stopped as soon as I pulled out the charging plug from the car? I will put a call into my Volt Adviser. I have been unable to duplicate the noise.
I panicked too and pulled the plug. The fan stopped. Shortly after I plugged it back in, the fan started again - as if to say, "See. I know what I am doing. Stop worrying about it."

I would love to see/hear a mp3 file of all of the various Volt sounds (artificial and natural) narrated so we could identify one from another. Maybe I'll work on that ...

The Tesla Roadster cooling fans are even louder. People in California are just lucky to have a cooler/drier climate and rarely having to hear them. The amount of heat coming out of the tiny Roadster is staggering and could be attributed as THE cause for global warming

What everyone is posting is correct - regardless of what the external temperature you felt in the garage was, simply charging the battery generates heat and raises the temperature of the battery.

Stop over thinking it - this is normal.

Any one want to comment on how the dealer would DIAL-IN max cooling command so they can hear the noise ?

I for one don't want to be the first person to aim the heat-shrink gun at the air inlet temp sensor.

There is still a possibility of a fan hitting something at high RPM but that sound is east to detect.

There is a forum post on the sounds the volt can make - There must be a few smartphone Sound APP's that monitor sound dB level that would help.

Hey it got to 75F yesterday! (Today it's a more comfortable 68F .... but it is humid! LOL)

I understand your point about heat and about fan noise being normal. On the other hand, I agree with vdiv that there will be some getting used to all the noises that come from the Volt when it's parked. I also think that you can make a mistake by assuming you know a problem isn't real. Personally if he's worried about it then he's justified in asking about it. I know the first time I heard my Volt making all kinds of sounds just parked in the garage I was wondering what the heck was happening. It takes a bit getting used to such a noisy sleeper.
