I wish there was some universal standard around charging stations. Both in how they are signed as well as where they are placed. I would rather them be in an inconvenient spot rather than taking choice parking spots.

Often I will pull into a parking lot and have no idea where to begin looking for a charger.

They really need to make the spots clearly marked as others have said.

What is the basis for that statement. I am not aware of ANY federal law that limits what they can do with their parking except those that require handicap parking. Many lots have other types of restrictions (employees only, compact car only, no trailers, no employees ...), EV is just another on the list. In my state (and in PA, my previous state), they can tow any car that does not meet their properly stated parking rules.

And retailers putting in EV chargers have to pay, often by the foot, for the install process so they will often want to reduce their costs to keep it close to the building. They get the choice on what they want to do with their "private" lot and their private install

I personally think the most practical solution is to move the charging spots to the very back of the parking lot. Ultimately people are lazy and won't want to walk the distance unless they are getting a charge.

Never said retailers could not post any sign they please. Just referencing that you could not enforce non EV's from parking there, legally. Businesses are usually privately owned but aren't the parking lots intended for the general public? Not a lawyer, but that's really no different than you posting a sign outside your business dictating who parks where based upon the color of your skin, I mean car. Enforcing a variety of stipulations that's goes well beyond safety or handicapped individuals is silly. Just me but I would feel ashamed parking beside a handicap space just because I have an EV.

You can't discriminate against someone based on the color of the skin, origin or sex but that's because they're in a protected class. You can discriminate against cars. I think it'll happen, but not to an ICE. I was reading about a Leaf owner who goes to the local gas station on a daily (?) basis to sit out front and drink a soda and tell people about his Leaf hoping to convert them and stop them from buying gas. It's possible that he'll piss off the gas station owner and they'll restrict Leaf's from parking in his lot.

So is the Volt a protected class or endangered species?

Electric Vehicle (EV) Parking Space Regulation

An individual is not allowed to stop, stand, or park a motor vehicle within any parking space specifically designated for parking and charging EVs unless the motor vehicle is an EV and has been issued an alternative fuel vehicle special plate or sticker. A person who is found responsible for a violation may be subject to a civil penalty of at least $350. (Reference Arizona Revised Statutes 28-876)

Glad to see this. Must have been signed into law by Jan Brewer's predecessor.

Actually been on the books for a long time, but need a certificate from the manufacture certifying that the car is a ULEV according to the latest incarnation.
