As far as I recall, I don't see anything appear on the screen when I change presets, or even when I change sources (between FM/AM/HDD/etc). I'll double-check the next time I'm in my car.

Two changes I'd like to see:
    1) Allow the radio to be turned on independently of any other screen function. Now, annoyingly, the radio/audio blasts on when I only need to turn on climate or turn on Nav. Very annoying to have to mute everytime.

    2) Cover the blue power button with a small, spring loaded cover that requires the driver to slip the finger underneath the cover to push on, and prevents inadvertent depression of the power button. That's from experience when I meant to push drive mode button and hit power button....very bad idea while driving.

It ignores the first button press and just puts up a warning in the DIC... Unless you're one of us sport mode addicts and doing a quick double-click to unleash the Volt's adventurous side..

Really, though, I don't think this cover is the best answer - a cover that some folks won't understand and that you have to use twice every trip, to prevent an occasional mode mis-hit? I'd much rather see a persistant sport mode separated from the mode button (so that it can be used in conjunction with mountain or hold mode,) and a relocated mode button (or 3-way switch as someone proposed above.)

I did confirm that the display works as I recalled. No visual feedback when changing between presets, sources, or tracks when on the energy screens.
