Unhappy SPX Charger - Blinking red light

Yesterday morning we found the right light on our SPX charger was flashing red. My wife says she plugged in the Volt like normal last night and got the normal horn sequence saying everything was fine. We unplugged and re-plugged the charger into the Volt and got the red light again. We turned on the Volt and it had no additional charge so the failure must have happened earlier into the 8 hour charging cycle. We power cycled the Volt and then plugged in again and got a normal charge. We hoped it was just a fluke.

This morning the blinking red light returned. We called OnStar to check error codes and none were reported. We have a dealer appointment for Tuesday. In the meantime, anyone have suggestions on what may be wrong?

Happen sometimes to us for reasons unknown. Have the charger send you a text message when it happens. Just unplug and plug back in it seems to be ok.

Happens at least once a month.

This morning I was able to unplug / re-plug to get the charge restarted without doing anything to the Volt.

My SPX charger is doing the same thing. In fact, I have not been able to charge with it for the last week. The 120V charger is working fine. I am going to call SPX to report the issue.

The instruction tags that should be attached to the unit says a flashing red on right , green on left indicates a fault was detected.

Right red says "charger fault". Instructions are to reset the breaker which I presume "reboots" the SPX box.

Any bets this permanently fixes the problem?

I guess that means mine gets reset every time we switch the line and use the clothes dryer. :-)

I've had issues that originate with my electrical system.

Turns out the circuit I'm running to the garage is too long a run and the voltage drop causes a fault and shuts down the charge. I've temporarily cured the problem by dropping the charge unit down to the 8amp draw instead of 12. Eventually will have electrician run a larger wire to garage. If I plug the unit into an outlet on same circuit but closer to fuse box it works fine at 12amps (there is an outside outlet attached to house which is maybe 30 - 40' from the outlet in the garage i've been using).

And the voltage drop which is too much and will cause a problem was ?
the local average voltage will help as well

We are 2 block from the local power sub station which has many advantages.

    Voripteth,
Sorry to hear you are having difficulty charging. If you believe the difficulty is due to your charging station, please call the SPX Tech Support team at 877-805-3873, option 3. An SPX representative will be happy to help troubleshoot!
