As I suggested, we should ask if GM will lend you their facilities. I will PM Trevor, our Volt Advisor Team liason.

If not, gotomeeting.com offers a 30 day free trial.

I can set up the session remotely if you like, but I can't be the director in real time without being there. If there is someone planning to attend, I'll work with him if it will help.

BTW, I have another question, based on my IT background.

The Volt has nearly 100 microprocessors, not even counting dedicated chips that are not on the CAN. I am sure that every one of them keeps a log of the most recent events. Without those logs, the Volt software would never have been debugged. These logs are particularly useful when an event occurs that can't be reproduced at will.

Nonetheless, when such an event happened to my Volt, there was no interest in dumping the logs. Fault codes are programmed by people to report on events that are anticipated. The logs will allow the software engineers to actually recreate intermittent failures, including those that are impossible.

Is there no way to dump the microprocessor logs at a dealership and transmit them to GM engineering?

Q1: Sir, if you could get with someone who will be attending the clinic to direct the gotomeeting, that would be great. In all honesty, I don't think I have the time to devote to that. I work full time and go to school full time. I love the idea though. Let see if we can make it work.

Q2: Yes is the answer. There are different levels of data dumps that can be performed. It all comes down to the tooling one has to derive the software. In a dealership environment my access to the deep software stuff is limited, and with all honesty, I don't know much about the ins-and-outs of software yet.

My tools do allow me to send what is called freeze-frame data and other types of faults captured by the onboard computers to GM engineering. As a matter of fact I do it quite often.

During the initial launch of the Volt, GM sent engineers to my dealer to conduct those data dumps, which entailed much more specific information that I was capable of obtaining.

Are you willing to be in charge of the "control room" during the broadcast?
