Default CUV version options and design

I'm waiting for the CUV version of the Voltec... and would like to see a utilitarian vehicle... simple reliable and useful.
I really don't care about high end radios with 10 speakers... that's very low on the list. I would much rather see removable seats like a mini van to cut weight and increase EVmiles and cargo space when not needed. A vehicle built like the Saturn Vue ... galvanized body with plastic panels you can replace yourself and a stainless steel exhaust that doesn't need maint after 7 or 8 years like my Buicks.

Unless GM see an uptick in sales, its doubtful there will be any other EREV models. Selling 20K vehicle a year is much to small for the billion it takes to engineer a vehicle for sale.

The Cadillac version is the only one in the plans for now, and we haven't seen anything but the car show mock up, lots of talk but until there is tooling and a plant setup, its vaporware

Have you seen the Chevy MPV5? It's the CUV concept based on the Volt powertrain. I was invited to a behind-the-scenes preview of model, though they didn't disclose the name (it was obviously the MPV5), nearly two years ago. They had mockups and we were asked to evaluate interiors, features, seating, and door configurations. Unofficially 2014... we'll see. I just ordered my '13 Volt, but if this were available now I'd go with it instead.

I would disagree with you there. Creating multiple vehicles on a single platform is a huge cost savings. That is where CUV's came from in the first place, new body on the frame of a small car. Same idea with large SUV's, new body on a pickup. As emmjay said, they have already debuted the MPV5 concept. Volt sales are climbing, especially in Europe, and GM would be foolish to not capitalize by expanding the line.

The CUV would definitely be my choice in a next EREV. The increased size of a CUV probably allows for better drivetrain and packaging options. I would also like to see just that...drivetrain OPTIONS. We just bought my wife a Volvo XC60. Did we get the based 3.2 liter with 270 HP...um, no. Did we get the upgraded 3.0 turbo with 300 HP...nope. Stepped up the the 325 HP R-design Turbo 6! yes, I love power and gobs of torque and I'll pay extra for it. On an EREV the options could be power or battery range related. This whole segment is enormously popular these days. My wife loves the upright seating position and greater visibility while still having a car like drive...and truth be told, I kind of like it too. emartin is right with regard to economies of scale and having more models on one platform. Still, in the end it comes down to dollars and SOMETHING has got to start selling in the EV world or we will see the second death of the electric car.

It seems as though the Cadillac ELR is for real (http://www.cadillac.com/elr-electric-car.html)

ELR: THE LUXURY TOURING COUPE THAT’S ELECTRIC.

Cadillac is proud to announce production of the new standard in extended-range electric vehicles. The Cadillac ELR is a luxurious, dramatic 2+2 coupe, based on the highly acclaimed Cadillac Converj Concept. With an electric propulsion system made up of a T-shaped lithium-ion battery, an electric drive unit and a four-cylinder gas-powered electric generator, the ELR will be as exhilarating as it is responsible.
Also, I've been getting ELR banner ads.
