    Default Insulation for the roof.

Tinted the windows with Suntek Carbon XP nano-carbon materials. Works good, but wow, the heat pounding through from that black roof is intense. Has anyone insulated the roof yet? Is it easy to do through a dealer, or repair shop? Insulation is relatively inexpensive, so I'm hoping the roof isn't welded ion place. Or can this be done from the inside up.

Just to help paint a picture for this, the steady 100 plus degree temperatures here in Denver at 6,000 feet is alarmingly hot. I can sizzle bacon on the roof. The car feels okay except for the infrared baking down from the black roof. My car is White Diamond and stays cool except for the painted black roof. Or will a clean wax do something?

I haven't ever used this, but you could try this under the headliner (assuming it will fit):

My Volt gets hot here in the Arizona desert sun, but no hotter than any other car I have driven here. Of course, I almost always remote start a few minutes before I get in, so maybe I don't notice it quite so much. And maybe the thinner air in Denver causes more solar heating.

I notice the heat from the leather seats more than from the roof.

I looked up the roof price once : About $500 for the steel part and there are welds. I also look into removing the headliner and there were lots of warning about the side air bags. I just wanted to tighten the nut on the antenna base -which was loose.

Consider that the black roof may be a good thing in the winter months in Denver. Since the Volt battery range is more heavily impacted by the heater than by the A/C, heating from the roof might be good. Actually the roof is no different than most other steel bodied car, if you don't like the color just have it painted by a good body shop. Since your car is a tri-coat paint I would recommend using a body shop specializing in the high end cars like Mercedes, Porsche, Lexus, etc. Tri-coats are not easy to get good quality repairs done, your average run of the mill body shop may not be up to the task.

If it's that much of an issue for you, paint it white like the car.

Assuming you like the dark (black) look on the Volt, why not look into 3M 'carbon fiber' look vinyl made for vehicle applications; this would likely provide some modest insulation value and still look good and unique ($500 or so).

Every idea here is good. I'm calling to see what option works best, and quickest. Thanks Volt Family. Good people here.
