    Default HID upgrade and DRL's

Just to confirm, the DRL's only work when the car is in gear during the day, and the DRL's turn off when the parking lights or headlights are turned on. I just upgraded to HID headlights and was wondering if anyone has figured out to have both the headlights and the DRL's on at the same time at night? Is any any disadvantage to the DRL's being on at night? Thank you.

    Correct.

As for the DRL's being on at night, the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (http://fmvss108.tripod.com/fmvss108text.htm), S5.5.11(a) states "Any pair of lamps on the front of a passenger car, multipurpose passenger vehicle, truck, or bus, whether or not required by this standard, other than parking lamps or fog lamps, may be wired to be automatically activated, as determined by the manufacturer of the vehicle, in a steady burning state as daytime running lamps (DRLs) and to be automatically deactivated when the headlamp control is in any ``on'' position, and as otherwise determined by the manufacturer of the vehicle."
