Default Did anyone notice Volt was going to have power folding mirrors?

I was browsing the volt service manual site and notice that there's a troubleshoot tip for Power Mirror Folding Malfunction. I'm guessing GM decided to ditch this to save the cost but it would have been another cool luxury item.

I did check for memory seats to see if it's in there as well but no such luck.

This is a case of terminology. The mirrors do fold, only the adjustment is power.

very common in europe (narrow streets, small cars) my guess is that is why it was considered.

ahh.. thanks that makes sense. It was confusing me with they mention retract and extend motors versus an adjustment motor.

Folding mirrors are good for most drivers when they park, but power folding is a gimmick we can live without. Power folding has another motor that can fail, and becomes another service income for dealers.

My two older cars have mirror housings that are solid, not even folding as in newer cars. They have power adjustment that is only used if my wife takes the wheel (she is a smaller person), but most of the time I never need to readjust them, and I can still adjust them manually without the ignition key or if the motor fails. They never bother me when I park, so I don't even need them to be folding. Solid mirror housing are simple and easy to replace.

    Then why's the page have:
The outside mirror switch controls the power folding or power extending functions of the outside wing mirrors. The folding mirror motors are controlled by using bi-directional motor controls through the folding mirror motor retract control circuit and the folding mirror motor extend control circuit.
Curious.. Does the Ampera or euro-spec Volt have folding mirrors?

(don't have quite so much the need in the US with SUV-sized spaces )

I wonder if folding mirrors will be on the 2013 Volts with the blind spot warning system. I think this is the case with some other makers like Volvo.

I bet these are standard on the Euro Volt and Ampera. This is absolutely a requirement. Not only are the inner city streets in Europe narrow, but the parking garages are tiny and the Volt is a rather wide car. I would actually like this as its a tight fit into my garage and the mirrors really stick out.

    Can any dealer get this?

Just took delivery of my 2013 Volt and discovered the mirrors don't fold at all, power or manual. Am I missing something?

Edit: Never mind. They fold, I just needed to push a little harder. Definitely not power folding on the '13.

For aero reasons, the Volt's mirrors stick out pretty far. Personally, I think it'd be nice to have power-folders. I have them on my Sierra and they're absolutely a godsend.

If I had a 16' garage door, that'd be one thing, but I have a pair of eight-footers that are narrowed significantly by the door's trim. It's a tight fit, even for a smaller car, and any extra margin would be welcome. I've *almost* whacked 'em while backing out, more than once!

On my previous Sierra (I've had two, sequentially), the mirrors folded also, but only manually. I had to lower the window, pull by hand to fold the mirror, and still drive in veeeery carefully... every time I garaged the truck. When leaving, reverse the procedure. Otherwise the truck was too wide to get in. Believe me... it gets old, fast. When I got my 2005 and found it had power folders, I was pretty darned happy. On the Volt I wouldn't call them essential, but they'd still be nice to have.
