Default Which car would be your number 2 EV?

I am proud to be a Volt owner, like so many here. A car fueled right here at home instead of funding terrorists and Middle East America haters is a blessing. I always followed the Tesla as well. That shall be my next addition to the garage. Visting the Teslamotors website, "Mission Impossible?-Mission Accomplished" gives me pride. Elon Musk who sat with Bob Lutz on the Charlie Rich show, both believed in a car made here in the USA, fueled here in the USA.

I'd like to say the Model S, but I just don't think I could afford it. Isnt it like 75k well optioned? I think it would be the Ford Focus EV, even though I think Ford is NOT a real EV player. Given the issues with the lack of thermal management in the Leafs, I would opt for a car that decided to liquid cool the packs.

The Tesla S looks really nice... But I would not trade my Volt for a S because for me the extended range is necessary...

So, I would say a Tesla roadster as second car for some fun driving under the sun

I looking forward to the 2013/14 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV.

The production model will have a petrol engine and two electric motors (one front, one rear). This will enable the crossover to have a four-wheel drive system and three different drive modes:
    • Pure (electric-only)
    • Series (electric motors running with the petrol engine recharging the batteries)
    • Parallel (electric motors and petrol engine working together to provide motivation)
Additional information is limited, but Mitsubishi said the model will be launched next year and have specifications that are similar to the concept.

My number 2 EV, as a number of others here, is...ANOTHER VOLT.

That is- present day, the only thing we can deal with. Sure, Tesla's next iteration (not the current rollout) seems intriguing. I looked at, and liked the aforementioned Mitsubishi. Then there is the someday Via Motors version of my Tahoe, etc, etc. But much of this is just promises at this point. The incident that pushed me over the edge to get the second Volt was researching that Mitsubishi SUV- and searching for ANYTHING concrete on the matter. Like Toyota's promise of that Pip a few years ago, cold hard reality at delivery time may make you wished that you had not dreamed of something else.

My options in order I will consider them:
    1. Tesla Model S
    2. Ford Focus Electric
    3. Volt

Note this is replacing my second vehicle. So, I will still keep the Volt. My buy timeframe is late this year to early next year. So, other cars planned in the future are not options.

I'm not interested in the Leaf.

Also, for those who are considering a Focus/Leaf or other vehicle that only has 100 mi range, note that the Model S with 130-160 mi range can be had for about 55K after the rebate.

I have pondered this question frequently in the last 6 months. I wish there were a Tesla dealer nearby, but the closest one to me is in Chicago (500+ miles) or Denver (600+ miles) away. If there was a dealer, I'd have put a deposit on a Model S.

For me the next best choice was the Ford Focus Electric - I just had it delivered less than two weeks ago.

The original plan was for the Focus to be my wife's car, but she got cold feet on the range limitations and lack of a backup engine. I knew that I could live within the Focus' range after living with the Volt for the last year plus, so I took the Focus and she got the Volt. I do miss many aspects of the Volt driving experience, but this was the best compromise for us.

    Smith Electric delivery truck.

    Or, Ford C-Max Energi.

I was going to say Fisker Atlantic (when available) but it's hard to know if they'll ever get to that point.

I have a Model S reserved but as I'm number 8,781 in line I'll probably have to wait a year before I see it.
