Question Is $385/mnth (incl tax) with $1k down a good deal base model '12 (HOV) volt?

I'm looking at a 2012 base model (HOV) volt in California.

Is $385/mnth (incl tax) a good price? Here's what I know:
MSRP of 39,995 (including $850 destination)
$1000 down ( dealer said it was necessary for Ally to give back $3370 lease cash??, seems fishy).
$0 additional due at time of signing
    36 months, 15k per year
    No options ( base model).

Has anyone else bought this model and gotten a cheaper monthly with $1000 or less out of pocket at signing?

    Thanks.

Thanks Henry. Can someone help advise me what a good price/month would be for this car? I don't need all the options, just want the lowest price, without going out of pocket.

Did you read the posted threads?

Call the GM Rick at keys, numbers are listed in the thread, the deals to the car your looking at is the first post, or about 4500 below MSRP, no money down if you have a 800+ FICO.

Based on the posted deals, a base would be about 300 month with the link to the 2800 off invoice pricing which is about 4500 under MSRP

Since you are in California, Call Rick at Keyes Chevrolet in L.A. (Van Nuys)

He can be reached at 818-231-1286 (CELL) or at the dealership 818-267-1400.

Tell him you are a Volt forum member and you will get the special pricing he is offering which will be better than what you are being quoted.

You can also tell him Shawn from the Volt forum sent you!

He needs to move a bunch of Volts before the end of the month! He told me last night that he is extending the $2800.00 BELOW INVOICE deal on all in stock CLOTH 2012 Volts until the end of June. Now is the time to jump on his offer if you want a Volt!!

It is worth the call...trust me!

Contrary to what some are saying, this is a decent deal. If you bought the car for $2000 off MSRP, or $37995, and if you put $1000 down, then for a lease of 36 months at 1% interest you're looking $336.09 plus tax or $365.50 if the tax is 8.75% (this assumes a 60% residual). Note this does NOT include doc or tag fees which would increase the monthly payment.

it's hard to compare lease payments because there are so many parts, including whether you're buying an HOV Volt or not and your credit scores (I suspect yours are good BTW but maybe not over 800, which I've never heard used as a benchmark).

Have them give you a breakdown of the lease. If you post it then we can give you very good information about whether it's a good deal or not. Without that it's hard to give you an informed opinion. At the same time, it's never a problem to get a second or third or fourth bid on your business, so calling around can't hurt.

I had a 780 credit score, and they rejected my lease claim without my Mom co-signing (which also rejected), then she had to be the primary leasee and I was co-signer. But after doing that, my mom's 810 credit score vs. my 780 dropped another $20/month off the lease payment.

I got my pre-HOV lane fully loaded $46k MSRP, for $340/month. That was in February though. I understand with the HOV stickers, you won't get the deals I got, which would probably be approximately $100/more per month. I personally wouldn't pay more than $350/month on a base model HOV Volt. Since the 2013's have been announced I would argue down to $400/month for a fully loaded HOV Volt.

Obviously there was an issue other than your credit score. Once you're past a cut-off you normally get the best rate. The reason you couldn't lease as the primary is probably the reason for the lower lease payment. I doubt FICO scores are that predictive.
