And if you admit to it, could it be an obstruction crime / offense? But, what can the courts do against you if do you not admit to it?

This is a very interesting question. Since you own the equipment the video is yours. Forcing you to produce it would be considered by many as an infringement of your 5th Ammendments rights against self incrimination. On the other hand the video may be treated the same as the data in the automotive black boxes which are in just about all cars. The police feel they should be able to access this data freely for accident reconstruction.

My personal feeling is if I screwed up than I should man-up and take responsibility, but if I didn't, the dashcam could be a valuable tool.

Doubledave, how well does this camera work after dark? Mine sucks.

At 1920x1080, 15 fps, I have found the 16 GB memory to hold 8 hours of footage.
Also, a nice feature, is that if it detects any g-force over your set threshold, it marks the one-minute segment as an "event" which it will not automatically overwrite.
The quality of night footage? I think it is decent; I have put up another video showing the night quality, 1920x1080 recorded at 15 fps, played back 2x speed to 30 fps. Also I muted the audio because I don't want copyright issues on my youtube account, and besides, Sony Vegas video editing software only uses the first few seconds of audio of each one minute clip; I can't figure that one out yet.

I would like to think that in an accident which I am at fault, that I would still offer the video evidence to investigators, but I don't think they can legally force me to incriminate myself with a recording from my own camera. If there's an accident that is the other's fault I want to have my own unaltered copy of the recording; take it home and copy it first. I wouldn't want the other guy's lawyers doctoring up the video to make it look like I'm at fault, assuming they also get a copy of it.

Thanks for posting the night video, I'm impressed, it's about the same as human vision. Are you always up at 3 in the morning?

Yeah, the night vision of this camera is better than what I've seen on all of my other video cameras.

Yes, I am always up at 3am. That is about the time I usually go home from work.

Neh, if I screwed up, the courts will have to prove that I screwed up. Simply because an obstruction of justice may be a more serious crime than a lecture from my mom.

I was thinking that if you intentionally digitally erased it or damaged the SD card, you can plead the 5th on either grounds: 1) do not want to admit to obstruction or tampering with evidence; (2) do not want to admit or provide evidence of your own crime.

FYI. I *think* final GB is set on the tsx forums. I am on still on the fence to get it (I really want it, and it is inexpensive at $200); but I don't want a crappy install (which I bet will happen if I try myself).

A separate question...does anyone believe this kind of an item will increase your chances of getting broken into? I see that GPS and stereo systems are common items, and some of those are less expensive than this $200. HD cam. The last thing I want to do is to give someone a reason to break into the car--that would be a form of Irony, I guess.

Looks like the BlackVue DR500GW-HD Wifi is up on their site for $279.99 with the 16GB stick (no group buy at this point). I see a 32GB option described but no way to buy it there... kinda weird. I'd prefer to not have to go buy a 32GB stick in addition to the 16GB that would come with it, that I'd have no real use for. At least their direct price is less than it's showing up for on Amazon.
