    Default Greeaaaaaaaaaaaat.....

Just when it seemed the whole silly "Volt fire" business had faded, just about every news outlet today is reporting on the Cruze recall due to fires, and just about all of them that I've read also mention the Volt in the same context.

    Sigh.....

    Don't worry.

Recall announcements for fire risk issues in ICE vehicles happen almost weekly without much fanfare. Most of these are forgotten within a week.

Toyota has a close to 1-million car recall for fires in the car doors.

Sometimes, I wish Ford would bring back the Pinto and show it to these guys how insignificant that issue was.

Like the Volt fire investigation, this is a Tempest in a teapot. There are no fire incidents in the wild. The fix is free, no parts need replacement, and the "recall" requires less than 30 minutes.

We have a Cruze LT that my son is driving, and we are very confident that he is safer than he would be if he were driving an older car. This is due to many things including that he is behind a phalanx of airbags.

Stuff happens. Honda is recalling the Civic because the driveshaft can separate.

We'll take our Cruze in. No big deal. The Cruze has been so reliable we've only gone in to swap summer/winters, and we do the oil change at the same time. This may require us to take the car in outside that window.

After nearly 40,000kms in our Cruze (12k original one totalled in accident, 28k in replacement) we can say the cars have been great. Fun to drive, great to own, great on gas, and everyone in the family loves it.

This will just pass and no one will even mention it come next week.
