2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid MPG

Does anyone here actually believe that the 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid will get the 47 city / 44 highway MPG ratings some publications have been throwing around? I've been patiently awaiting the real numbers for months, but the reality continues to be a mystery. But I doubt this more than just about any other claim that has popped up this year.

The 2012 Ford Fusion Hybrid is rated 41 city / 36 highway. I'm placing my bets at 42 city / 38 highway for the 2013 model. I'll be completely shocked if it gets much higher than that. Anyone else care to place bets?

Whew, if those are the actual fuel numbers it'll still be a gas guzzler compared to our Volts.

I don't know,about the Ford, but the Red Rider is at 282 mpg and the Ecosister is 1000+mpg and the electric has been free off the solar. Cheap to operate. Last gas was Feb for my Vegas trip.

Yes, I believe it is possible. They have to get the Fusion gas-version highway MPG up to 42 or higher to compete with the Cruze. So 44 is not a stretch. As far as 47 city, only if the car has lost some weight while gaining some battery performance.

I think Ford can do it, and it will be a great car, if they pull it off. But to get a real car up to 47 city? Not easy. I rented a Ford Fusion 2 years ago and it was a fun car to drive. I took it through the Cooke City Pass between Wyoming and Montana and it handled rather nicely. I had a BMW and a Mercedes pull to the side of the road, which isn't easy, to let me by and it wasn't out of control, just tight.

Has it received an official rating? If that is the official rating, I believe it. I consistently beat the rating in my 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid.

Why are people excited about these king of numbers? My 1981 VW rabbit diesel got 50 city, 60hwy. My 1998 vW Jetta diesel got 45 city, 50hwy. This is 2012, why can't something similar in a hybrid do better than the Focus?

I remember the 1980's VW diesel rabbits and there is no comparision to a Fusion in my opinion. The Fusion is a much bigger car with more capacity in the trunk, faster, etc. The Fusion Hybrid is a good performer in it's class. A friend has a 2011 Fusion and it performs well for him. He's a large guy (6'7") and the Volt simply doesn't physically fit him well.

I'm personally glad to see MPG numbers going back up after years of stagnation in my opinion.

I have a soft spot in my heart for those old Rabbits, especially the convertibles. Geo Metro also - the 2 door, in that funky green teal color, 3 cyl, stick shift...

But... todays Rabbit won't do nearly as good. Air bags, crash test laws, weight weight weight. Required by the government. And standard features, levels of performance, etc., demanded by customers. Put a Prius drivetrain in that old Rabbit and it'd get some kind of unreal mileage, etc.
