    Default thermostat stuck open

I just got back one of my Volts from the shop, after showing codes P0128 and P2181. These codes correspond to engine coolant too cold, and faulty thermostat. Running fine now with a new thermostat.

The strange thing is that when it happened with my wife driving, she reported seeing a message first that said the system was turning off AC due to engine temperature. Onstar checked and said that engine temp was not too hot. A few minutes later when she restarted the car, the display switched a few times between battery and ICE display.

Anyone seen these kind of glitches?

    Thanks,
    Ron

Not sure if I'm having a similar problem... but the thermostat just failed on my Volt. The check engine light came on a few miles after the dealership installed the battery safety enhancement. A Volt Specialist just called me... claiming the failure and the battery work appear unrelated.... so it's purely coincidental? Seems ODD

    Adammaytv,
For what it's worth, my wife's thermostat error happened just a few days to a week after her Volt was in for the battery enhancement.
    Probably another coincidence.

I had a thermostat error on my previous car shortly after having the head gasket replaced. I pulled the thermostat off and noticed a small metal shaving, about an inch long, stuck in the thermostat. I removed it and it worked fine afterwards.
If the thermostat is getting stuck open, it could possibly be similar, although I wouldn't expect it in a new car. Other than that it could be a faulty thermostat. If it happened on battery power it's more likely to be either a sensor error or a computer glitch.
    Love My Volt!
